The school is an orthodox Jewish Voluntary Aided Primary School with a Nursery Class. It was founded by Birmingham Hebrew Congregation and started life in 1843 as the Hebrew National School. It later became Birmingham Hebrew School and ultimately, as it is now known, King David School, when it moved to its present site in 1965.

King David School is a jewel in the crown of the Birmingham Jewish community. Its outstanding standards in the secular curriculum, the vibrant ethos and integration of Orthodox Jewish values, and the positive atmosphere of co-operation and harmony, all set in the context of a multi-cultural school in the heart of Britain's second city, make it a unique example for education, and indeed, society itself.

The school's primary aim is to provide a sound secular and religious education, enabling the children to become integrated into society. The school strives to provide an environment in which all children are enabled to reach their full potential within the framework of the National Curriculum, developing emotionally in a happy and caring Jewish atmosphere. The close association with the local Jewish community provides the characteristics of a village school.

King David Primary School will be an outstanding school, "Where Stars Shine." King David will provide a meaningful and inspiring Jewish Education, relevant to all children. We will further develop the Jewish Studies curriculum to match the changing needs of the school community to enhance the development of Jewish attitudes, beliefs, knowledge, and practice. Formal assessment and consistent marking will be informative to pupils and parents enabling further progress in Hebrew reading standards and Jewish knowledge and practice.

We aspire to provide a curriculum that inspires and motivates all pupils to become independent problem solvers who can cooperate and collaborate with others. We will teach our children how to cope with and build on success, face challenges and meet setbacks. King David aims to foster curiosity, self-belief, and adaptability taught in an exciting, explorative, thematic curriculum. Our broad, balanced, and vivid curriculum will promote a love of learning and high standards, especially in literacy and mathematics. Our curriculum will teach children the importance of emotional and social awareness and the need to be enterprising.

Our programs of study will equip the children with significant knowledge and relevant understanding of what is right and wrong, fair and unfair. The children will have a sense of identity within the local area and value their local community. They will appreciate and have the necessary tools to live harmoniously and prosper in their multicultural community and to develop a national identity, sharing fundamental British values.
