James Dixon Primary School is a vibrant, diverse, caring, and happy community. We embrace the diversity of our school community and feel privileged to be part of a multicultural school community. Everyone is committed to providing the best learning opportunities for our pupils. We provide opportunities for children to strengthen their independent learning, the ability to accept the challenge, and to believe in themselves.

At James Dixon we recognize the benefits and positive impact that Learning Outside the Classroom and The Arts have on our pupils and are committed to ensuring that they have real and memorable experiences which enable them to have fun, experience personal success, feel challenged, and become productive citizens who take pride in their school community, local community and will grow to understand their roles and responsibilities as global citizens.

We value respect, cooperation, resilience, and honesty. During their time at James Dixon, pupils are encouraged to work towards their personal goals through our broad, exciting, and original curriculum.

We aspire to be a school that is at the heart of the community. We aim to maintain our excellent lines of communication and relationship with parents and extend this to positive relationships with local businesses.

We have a constant drive to maintain and improve standards whilst giving our children moments and experiences they will never forget through our Creative Curriculum and dedication to The Arts. We have recently been awarded the new Arts Mark accreditation and we are dedicated to developing our Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC). We have Children’s University status which is further evidence of our commitment towards providing innovative and exciting learning experiences.

We currently have a Specialist Provision class for children with complex learning needs. We aim to continue the success of this provision.

Our Creative Curriculum has been developed over several years. We take a joined-up approach to learning and teaching which means that subjects are linked by a theme. Year group classrooms are physically close to each other and arrangements are made for teachers to plan in year groups so that all classes are getting the same quality first teaching. Nurturing Confident, Caring, and Curious children is what we do at James Dixon School Nursery. We consider every 'little person to be a beautiful, independent, fascinating, creative individual with a huge amount to offer the world. At James Dixon, we understand that the importance of the early years in a child's general development cannot be over-emphasized. Any experience which caters to the needs of the children, before they reach statutory school age, establishes the foundations of future learning in many areas of human experience. There are four main needs of a child in the pre-school years:

• The need for love and security
• The need for new experiences
• The need for praise and recognition
• The need for a framework of responsible behavior

We want every child to leave us feeling that they have been given opportunities to be successful in as many areas as possible. By taking learning outside the classroom we strive to give them first-hand experiences, to develop children’s self-confidence, sense of curiosity, and to inspire them to take risks and equip them with the language and actions to develop quality relationships with others.

We have a thriving ‘Garden Gang’ who maintains our school gardens. Each Year group grows fruit or vegetables and we now have a regular stall at Crystal Palace Food Market. We use our grounds to host many community events for example last April we organized a circus that was open to the local community.
