We develop in children a desire for life-long learning and an understanding of different cultures, traditions, and societies as well as to respect individual rights and responsibilities. Our learning community is facilitated by a leadership structure that communicates our core purpose and direction, and a system of informed continuous professional development. Our professional staff team actively seeks to take up opportunities to further their knowledge and skills to the benefit of our schools.

Our parents and community are key partners and we are committed to working together to sustain a strong sense of community, promote educational achievement, raise children’s self-esteem and engender a sense of pride in our schools and communities.
Children can start Hoxton Garden Nursery in the school term following their third birthday. Coming to our nursery setting will allow your child to develop their social skills and begin to make new friends in a safe, educational, play-based setting that is run by qualified professionals. This is an important stage as it supports your child to develop and gain the skills needed for future learning including basic counting/number recognition, enjoyment of stories, phonics, social skills, and physical developmental play. From September 2017, some working parents will be eligible for a full-time place (30 hours per week) or a part-time place (15 hours per week).
Parents can apply for up to six primary schools in Hackney including neighboring boroughs. If you want your child considered for our school, you will need to apply using the online application form. This is available from 1st September for admission to the following academic year. The form will be processed by Hackney Learning Trust. Early registration does not give priority as the closing date is the 15 January of the year of admission.
Hoxton Garden Nursery is both part-time and full-time. We have 20 full-time and 12 part-time places available. If all the full-time places are not taken up, additional part-time places will be offered. If there are still vacancies remaining, parents with part-time places can ask to top up the part-time entitlement to a full-time place for which there will be a charge.
At Hoxton Garden Primary School we offer a curriculum that is broad and balanced to ensure every child reaches their full potential and has access to a range of educational experiences whatever their starting points or circumstance. The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum 2014.
Pupils at Hoxton Garden are provided with a clear progression of opportunity to engage with and be part of, a rich, varied, and comprehensive curriculum that reflects the interests of the school, its staff, pupils, parents, and the wider national and global communities. Although literacy and mathematics are planned discreetly in weekly plans, many topic areas are relevant in these lessons, particularly through the choice of texts and writing outcomes in literacy. Whole-school approaches to reading support quality teaching and learning.
Hoxton Garden works in close partnership with two other Hackney schools in a Hard Federation arrangement. This means that we share the same vision and aspiration that children deserve the best and work closely together to develop our curriculum, teaching, and community values together. We share a single Governing body and work under the title Viridis Schools with our Executive Headteacher working to secure working partnerships across and beyond our three schools. All three schools achieve above national averages at the end of KS2 and have many examples of excellent practice which we happily share in partnership work with other schools outside of our organization. For our general Stay & Play, all children from Reception age upwards can attend the group. Children have a wide variety of games and films to choose from to keep them entertained, or they can use this time to catch up on any homework or reading. Both hot & cold food is provided with several options of juice drink for the children to pick from. Children must be pre-booked to attend the session, and you can do so by speaking to a member of staff in the front office.
Class Council meetings take place every week and are run by the School Council members from each class. Their discussions with the class are based on the weekly agenda set by the School Council meeting, but also allow each class to raise any other business they think the School Council could be involved in.
The NCA’s CEOP Command (formerly the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) works with child protection partners across the UK and overseas to identify the main threats to children and coordinates activity against these threats to bring offenders to account. They protect children from harm online and offline, directly through NCA-led operations and in partnership with local and international agencies.
The safety of our pupils in all aspects of their life is taken very seriously at Hoxton Garden Primary School. Within that remit, we are committed to educating our young people to be safe internet users and in supporting parents with this very important skill at home too. In school, we have an internet safety code of conduct that all pupils and staff are expected to adhere to. We have strong and constantly updated filters in place to protect and govern internet use. The most effective way to support our children to develop internet safe skills is to be aware of the dangers ourselves.
Schools Direct @ London Metropolitan is a partnership of schools working together with London Metropolitan University to provide high-quality teacher training places.
