Welcome to the Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane. Like you, we have high aspirations and ambitions for the children at the academy. There is a driving determination to ensure that all pupils and adults reach their full potential. Our aims, visions, and priorities for improvement underpin all our policy and practice and we revisit and reflect upon these aims, visions, and priorities in our day-to-day work with the pupils and wider community.

Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane opened in September 2012. We have 460 very happy, hard-working, and enthusiastic children who are being prepared for happy and successful lives, now and in the future.

We aim to:

• Provide a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment where children enjoy learning and playing.
• Foster a love of learning within a structured, broad, and balanced curriculum.
• Provide high standards of teaching to develop knowledge, skills, and understanding in all subjects.
• Develop self-esteem so each pupil has a positive belief in their abilities and potential.
• Develop learning skills by encouraging a sense of curiosity, open-mindedness, perseverance, objectivity, reflection, and critical thinking.
• Nurture pupil diversity emphasizing individual talents in a wide range of fields, including academic, music, sport, art, and drama.
• Develop values and opinions within the context of mutual respect and understanding of differing belief systems and cultures within our community.
• Effectively implement the Federation equality plan and monitor progress towards meeting our equality duties

We are a proud member of the Harris Federation of primary, secondary, and all-through academies and work closely with the central Federation team and other academies to ensure we constantly challenge, support, and encourage each other to meet standards of excellence and fulfill high expectations. Despite having one of the highest proportion of pupils of disadvantaged background in Haringey, 78% of Harris Phillip Lane pupils achieved the combined RWM, one of the highest in the country, and the top 5% of schools with similar pupils (Fischer Family Trust). Progress was ranked in the top 20% nationally for Reading and top 10% for Maths and Writing. Our 2017 KS2 provisional results rank us the seventh highest in the borough this year.

We are lucky to be situated at the heart of a vibrant and diverse community with direct access to Downhills Park and close to the local swimming pool, public library, Bernie Grant Arts Centre, and a range of other amenities we use to enrich our children's learning.

At HPAPL we aim to uphold the importance of ‘acceptance and engagement with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs the pupils develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain’ as laid out in the Ofsted Schools Inspections Handbook, 2015.

As learners at Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane, our children are expected to do their best and value their education. As a Literacy specialist academy, we dedicate a lot of class time to ensuring our pupils become confident communicators, readers, and writers, alongside developing imagination, creativity, and confidence. We aim to prepare all students as fully as possible for their secondary education so that they are ready to hit the ground running when they change school at age 11.

There are daily lessons in mathematics, reading, and literacy for children of all ages. As pupils progress from our Early Years, the curriculum and teaching styles will evolve so we continue to arouse our pupils' natural curiosity alongside teaching pupils the key skills and knowledge set out in the National Curriculum. Other subjects including science, computing, religious and physical education are taught each week. Homework letters and curriculum snapshots are sent home to families at the start of each new half term and are also available from the link in the menu to the left.

We spend time with all our children helping them to understand what they can achieve now as well as what they need to do to become even better.
