Following the introduction of a new National Curriculum framework from September 2014, the government has also decided to remove level descriptors. The government’s policy of removing level descriptors from the National Curriculum is set out in terms of freeing schools from an imposed measure of pupil progress.

As a school, we also use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to enhance our curriculum. IPC is effective in enabling pupils to apply skills and knowledge acquired in English, Maths, Science, and other curriculum areas purposefully and concretely. The school has linked all topic areas to the key skills children should learn in History, Geography, DT, and Art. Each topic is also linked to a parenting expert and this has been pivotal in developing parental engagement and support of the school’s curriculum.

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is a 21st Century curriculum that extends children’s knowledge, skills, and understanding of subjects by developing personal attributes and supporting an international perspective in a way that responds to the changing world around us. IPC is an internationally-minded curriculum that is used in over 60 countries.

By using IPC we can nurture a love of learning and encourage the necessary key skills and personal qualities such as teamwork, research & creativity, flexibility & thoughtfulness which will help children to become able and inspired learners. In addition to this, children will extend their knowledge and understanding of communities beyond that of our own country by exploring many aspects of other societies and ways of living.

At Copenhagen Primary School Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education and citizenship education are both planned parts of the school curriculum that will also be reflected through the whole school experience. They equip pupils with knowledge, understanding, and skills and help them to explore and develop attitudes and values.

PSHE education supports the development of personal, social, and life skills: the identification of and dealing with emotions and feelings, exploring health-related issues, understanding about oneself, relationships with others and one’s place in the world, learning about managing finances, the world of work and planning for the future. It supports pupils to lead healthy, safe, fulfilled, and responsible lives.

Citizenship education prepares pupils for the social and moral responsibilities of community involvement, the understanding of democracy and justice, rights and responsibilities, and exploring identities and diversity.
