Our school has an extremely positive ethos where the quality of care, welfare, and safety are excellent. Consequently, pupils feel secure, have very good attitudes to learning, and develop great confidence in their time with us. We are now a three-form entry Primary School with nursery provision.
Buckingham Primary is a Community school and admission arrangements are determined in agreement with the local authority. The Admissions Authority for our school is the London Borough of Richmond upon the Thames which publishes its entry regulations every year. Our governing body applies the regulations on admissions fairly and equally to all those who wish to attend this school by the Local Authority.
If you live within the borough and still need to apply for a place because you missed the deadline or recently moved to the area, please contact School Admissions for an application. If you do not live in the borough, you need to apply through your council and you can include Richmond schools on your application form. Richmond residents will receive a letter notifying them of the outcome of their application regardless of the application method. Applicants who applied online and were offered their first preference school will receive an online notification only.
At Buckingham Primary School, we recognize that the children’s spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development plays a significant role in their ability to learn and achieve. We, therefore, strive to provide all children with equal opportunities to explore and develop their own set of values and beliefs, spiritual awareness, high standards of personal behavior, a positive and caring attitude towards others, an understanding of their own social and cultural traditions and an appreciation of the diverse cultures around them. We believe SMSC is the heart of what education is all about, as well as helping the children to grow and develop as unique individuals. SMSC is cross-curricular and closely linked to PSHE, RE, and British Values. It enhances each subject and underpins the school's motto of Believe, Persevere, and Succeed.
We are delighted to have received a grading of “Good” in our most recent Ofsted Inspection in October 2015 and are very proud of our report and the exceedingly positive outcomes. This is a very caring and happy school that sets high standards and believes the relationship between school, pupil, and home is strongest when all are working together towards a common goal of success. We believe that this success will be best achieved within the vibrant and organized learning environment that Buckingham Primary can provide.
Buckingham Primary school is a maintained school and is supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, including those with specific needs, make the best possible progress in the school. Buckingham School adheres to ensuring that all children are allowed to fulfill their potential. We are committed to raising attainment and promoting inclusion. The school will seek to identify and address all possible barriers to learning.
All parents and carers are automatically members of the Parent/Carer Teacher Association. We have an elected committee and we meet up monthly to discuss fundraising for the school and then discuss a variety of ideas as to how the school should spend the money raised.
The committee and other members then give their time to plan and organize all the events such as the cake sales, discos, and the summer fair. The meetings are quite relaxed and very much open to all. We share ideas for raising money. All ideas and suggestions are welcome. If you cannot make the meetings, you can be put on the email list and add your input that way.
The pupil premium funding, which is additional to main school funding, is a key way of closing the academic achievement gap between pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as from less deprived families. From September 2015, the premium is worth £1320 and goes to pupils who at any point in the past 6 years have received Free School Meals (FSM) £1,900 goes to any pupil who has been continuously looked after for the past six months or who has been adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 or who has left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order finally £300 goes to pupils whose parent/parents are currently serving in the armed forces or are in receipt of a pension from the Ministry of Defence.
The key impact measure is the achievement of pupils in receipt of the pupil premium and how this compares with the achievement of other pupils. The achievement of all pupils is regularly analyzed by class teachers and the leadership team. If children are at risk of making less progress than other pupils, interventions are put in place to help them 'catch up. Closing the gap data is produced for each year group and this is reported to governors.
