Odessa National Maritime University (NMU) is a versatile educational institution that prepares graduates of all educational qualifying levels (Bachelor, Specialist, Master) to maintain personnel requirements for maritime and river branches fully.

Research Center of Social Development of "the Belt and Road" along countries in the Odesa National Maritime University is created to implement joint research projects on social development between Ukraine and China and "the Belt and Road" countries.

Subject areas of Research Center are:

• Socio-economic development of the countries of "the Belt and Road".
• Transformation of the economic, political, and business system in "the Belt and Road" countries.
• Transborder corridors and their impact on the countries' socio-economic development of "the Belt and Road".
• Innovation management, innovation in transport and links between business and government.
• Influence of "the Belt and Road" on the institutions of family, marriage and youth.
• Socio-philosophical and political aspects of modern transformations of the state and society in the countries of "the Belt and Road".
• Psychological and humanitarian aspects of the development of "the Belt and Road".

The Department of International Relations is the central subdivision of the UniversityUniversity, which ensures the establishment, development and improvement of the international activities of the UniversityUniversity. It coordinates the procedures related to international applicants, students and PhD students at the Odessa National Maritime University.

The activities of the Department of International Relations of ONMU are carried out in the following areas:

• Training of specialists for foreign countries (bachelors, masters).
• Postgraduate education and professional development of foreign specialists.

University was established on June 12, 1930, as the Odessa Institute of Water Transport Engineers. In May 1945 the Institute was named as Odessa Institute of Marine Fleet Engineers. In 1994 the Institute was renamed into the Odessa State Maritime University.

Considering the national and international significance of the results of University'sUniversity's activity and its significant contribution into development of education and science, the UniversityUniversity was awarded National status by the Decree of the President of Ukraine on February 26 2002.

The ONMU is under direct subordination of the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine and has got the IV-th (the highest) accreditation level. In 2003 the ONMU completed the certification of international quality management systems ISO 9001: 2000.

The UniversityUniversity is a member of the European Association of Universities (EAU), South East European Association of Transport Researches (SET REF), International Association of Maritime University (IAMU), and Magna Charta Universitatum. The ONMU is the Coordinator of the University Network of Central European Initiative (CEI) in Ukraine. Since 1995 ONMU participated in Trans-European Programs of Cooperation (TACІS -TEMPUS) and CEI Programmes.

Odessa National Maritime University has trained staff for the maritime industry of foreign countries since 1950. For this period there has been prepared graduates for 90 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The structure of UniversityUniversity includes seven faculties which prepare specialists on 12 specialities and carry out retraining of personnel.

The system of education provides good quality and is well developed. One of the most important tasks for central and local authorities is to give equal possibilities in getting top-quality education for all citizens of Ukraine. In the area of education and upbringing are involved, 7% of Ukrainian professionals who teach 11 mln. Students (22% of the population).

There are 18400 institutions for pre-school preparation. According to the Constitution, the secondary school takes the central part in the system and is free and accessible. Seven mln. Students attend 21900 schools. The private sector in secondary education is insignificant. There are 200 private schools (1% of all the amount of students).

The transition of secondary school from 10 (11) to 12 level system, according to European standards, is taking place now. Moreover, there is no difference in the content of Ukrainian (post-soviet) secondary education from standards of the secondary school of other European countries.

You can take vocational education in 1003 technical institutions (utchilische) based on lower secondary education and upper secondary education. College of Further Education (technique) refers to the lower part of higher education in the Ukrainian education system.

As soon as you get the invitation, you have to address the Embassy of Ukraine in your country. There you can find out the information about the list of documents needed to get a student visa. To get through the passport control, you have to show the passport with visa, the copy of the official invitation, medical insurance policy. On coming to the place of study, international students have to be registered in the local authorities. As a rule, this procedure is done by the international department of the UniversityUniversity.

Odessa is known as "SEA GATE OF NATION". And any gate is intended to open. With that aim in mind 80 years ago there was established "Vodniy Institute" - Water Transport Institute – the most marine and the most Odessa like of all.
