The University of Yamanashi respects an individual and the freedom of academic inquiry and the pursuit of truth. We proactively accept diverse cultures and values.

The University of Yamanashi is a place where people with healthy minds are developed into individuals ready to respond to society's demands in pursuit of broad knowledge and deep expertise. Our graduates are prepared to become community leaders and contribute to global peace and everyone's welfare.

At the University of Yamanashi, we aim to nurture students and teachers with a high level of culture and ethics and broad cultural experiences and deep expertise. Our graduates can become part of the community's backbone and "citizens of the world" capable of contributing to global peace and the welfare of people everywhere.

Based on this charter, directors, faculty, and students of the University of Yamanashi, in cooperation with all like-minded individuals, aim to achieve the following objectives.

  • At the University of Yamanashi, we engage in education and research-based on concerns not only for our current generation but also for the welfare of future generations and the environment.
  • At the University of Yamanashi, we work together outside of our specialty areas, creating new fields of learning that flexibly combine a range of disciplines to solve diverse issues.
  • At the University of Yamanashi, we take an international view on finding problems and solving them. We create research centers that draw people from around the world and contribute to academic learning and science and technology development.
  • At the University of Yamanashi, we develop citizens with ethics and autonomy by supporting students and encouraging them to use their expertise to play a global society effectively.
  • At the University of Yamanashi, we examine issues faced by the local community and work with the community for achieving solutions, the results of which we then share with the world.
  • At the University of Yamanashi, we apply the results of education and research to society to serve and proactively give back to society.
  • At the University of Yamanashi, we introspectively assess our efforts and ask for society's inputs as we continually engage in the reform.

In addition to advancing leading-edge research that blends medicine, engineering, and agriculture and through advanced, result-based education, the University of Yamanashi contributes to society by developing well-educated individuals capable of responding to regional demands and becoming part of the backbone of the local community while playing an active role on the world stage.

Our university has a Faculty of Education and Human Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences. Students here learn from advanced research and highly respected faculty who instill passion, broad perspectives, superior ethics, and specialized capabilities in every student.

The year 2016 will be exciting as the university is implementing a radical educational reform in graduate schools through a large-scale reorganization of existing graduate schools and creating a new graduate school for agriculture-related sciences. The implementation will be accomplished in three phases, with mid-term plans for 2016 that correspond to various needs. These critical changes will further advance our education and research designs that bring together various fields. We strive to strengthen the ability to succeed and contribute to the local community by creating exceptional individuals who can accept local and global roles internationally.

As noted above, the University of Yamanashi trains individuals who display the ability to succeed. To further advance that goal, we will continue to assess our efforts and ask for cooperation and input from everyone, within and outside the school, as we continually engage in the reform.
