The University is actively seeking new contacts and coordinating efforts with local industries to advise enterprise management and technological development. The Innovation and Incubation Center and Office of Industrial Liaison are responsible for providing analytical services and training programs to strengthen the local industries' capabilities. Their primary focus is on assisting small and medium-sized companies in starting and managing their businesses, and at the same time, conducting research and development. Under special agreements made between the University and these companies, these companies can temporarily locate a campus division to enhance the accessibility of information on research, management, and training.
The University hopes to cooperate substantially with overseas universities and research centers in every way for the mutual benefits to be derived from improving Academic Research. The University is currently undertaking two methods to improve academic research. Firstly, cooperate with those universities that are already in a mutual relationship with our University through such ways as professor-to-professor or faculty-to-faculty cooperation on Academic Research. Secondly, establish global learning systems based on the utilization of the abundance of teaching and research resources. The University is striving to establish an international campus to increase international academic exchange and cooperation.
The strategies employed to improve research and industrial liaison include simplifying the organizational system, eliminating internal obstacles to communication, increasing professors' and students' interest and enthusiasm for learning, and creating an unlimited environment for research. It is hoped that the University will live to its name's connotations through intelligent research and cooperation with local industries and government institutions.
Throughout the years of our research and development, National United University has encouraged academics in their enthusiasm to explore and incorporate any possible fruits of their R&D into other research areas. The University has expected that, through this mutually beneficial incorporation of ideas, it can integrate and unite all of our resources and significantly advance our research and development capacities.
Initially, the College was mainly set up for industry-related technologies. As the resources and number of students grew, Business and Commerce courses were added into the curriculum, and the College was renamed United College of Technology and Commerce in 1992. On July 1st, 1995, the Board of Directors of the initial private College donated the school to the Minister of Education, and the College officially became a public institution with a new name － the National United College of Technology and Commerce. Later, on July 1st, 1999, the College was officially reorganized into an Institute of Technology.
To lead the development of higher education, the Institute continued to serve the public with a strong foundation in science, technology, and business administration and planning for future expansion. On August 1st, 2003, the Institute was officially upgraded to University status.
Five graduate programs are offered. Master's students have been recruited as of the Spring Semester of the 2003-2004 Academic Year. In 2009 Merger of TVE programs while maintaining dual enrollment of high school and vocational high school graduates. In 2010 Preliminary opening of the second campus - Bajia Campus. In 2010 Official opening of the connecting route between campuses. In 2014 The Minister of Education approved the establishment of the College of Design. The grand opening of the second campus - Bajia Campus in the academic year 2014.
The University provides separate dormitories for male and female students, furnished with security systems, air-conditioned facilities, washing machines, drinking fountains, and television. In cooperation with Chung-Hua Telecom, the University has provided the occupants with broadband internet access subscriptions at a favorable rate. Resident attendants will be on duty at the dormitory in order to assist the occupants.
To encourage students to pursue academic excellence, the University provides scholarships, up to NT$400,000 paid in installments over four academic years, to qualified students. Other subsidy and scholarship provisions for emergency, hardship, etc., from external sponsors, are also available upon application.
