Salalah College of Applied Sciences is a public college that offers a range of programs in Applied Sciences. The College is planned to be one of the MoHE Centres of Excellence, which awards degrees in Business Administration, Communication Studies, and Information Technology.
Salalah College of Applied Sciences is one of the six colleges of Applied Sciences supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education in Oman's Sultanate. It is located in A'Saadah South Suburb in Salalah, the biggest city in Dhofar Province in the South of Oman.
The College is about seven kilometers distance from the City Centre. It was established as a Teacher College in 1985 to offer a two-year diploma in education. In 1995 the College started to offer a four-year Degree of Education Course, and it was renamed Salalah College of Education. The College organized many events and participated in many programs and student activities such as seminars, lectures, workshops, cultural events, sports, and scouts events. The College also adopts many community service projects and supports research conducted by its academic staff outside Oman.
As the student is the central focus of the educational process, he is its fruit and the goal of its existence. Preparing students for life and its challenges now and in the future is our primary goal. On this basis, the College is working on producing a graduate equipped with theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and positive behavior, and able to put them into practice for his personal and social development by providing him with high-quality education according to international standards, developing the level of academic services provided for students, improving and developing the academic programs in line with the labor market needs as well as adopting a philosophy of self-learning in problem-solving and lifelong learning.
The College also seeks, according to its strategic plan, to focus on scientific research, spread the culture of scientific research, innovation, and creativity, and encourage highly qualified faculty members and students to participate in creating knowledge that guarantees the production of a generation of graduates capable of innovating and sound leadership in their areas of specialization and within their communities.CAS Salalah offers three programs Bachelor of International Business Administration (BIBA), Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT), and Bachelor Of Communication (BComm).
CAS aspires to gain national recognition as an applied sciences hub, providing practical and innovative solutions for the ever-changing local and national needs. The Mission of the CAS is to provide targeted programs that produce graduates responsive to the changing needs of the labor market, supportive of the national plans by contributing to the achievement of sustainable development.
Students admitted into the foundation program of the colleges of Applied Sciences are required to sit for an English placement test at the beginning of the first semester, which is carried out in the Autumn Semester orientation week.
The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree is a four year 128 credit hour program taught in English, designed to produce competent graduates in their major disciplines and IT in general graduates who are ready to be involved in developing the Omani industry. As the name "Colleges of Applied Sciences" suggests, our students are exposed to significant practical work and, where possible, linkages with the Omani industry are being developed and exploited. The BIT is offered in the CAS campuses of Sohar, Ibri, Rustaq, Sur, and Salalah.
The BIT program contains a core of mainstream IT courses, which expose our graduates to the concepts and topics about which all who work in the IT field should be familiar. Typically, web design and development software design and implementation information systems analysis and design operating systems networks database IT security professional ethics and such analytical courses as discrete mathematics and data structures. IT is a fast-moving field; however, so space has been left in the program, which can be filled with the time's innovations, ensuring our graduates are aware of the latest IT trends. Presently the four majors of the BIT are Software Development, Data Management, IT Security, and Networks. The majors permit our students to explore their chosen field in greater depth with the addition of highly focused and specialized courses.
We will graduate work-ready youth with a reliable work ethic and the knowledge and skills appropriate for the industry. They will be the result of a current, relevant, engaging, and challenging program delivered through various learning methods. We will provide an environment that encourages student, faculty, alumni, and public participation. We will attain national and international accreditation in preparation for higher academic status.
