Tambov State Technical University is considered to be one of the largest educational institutions in the region. It was founded in 1958 as the Tambov affiliate of Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering and called Tambov Institute of Chemical Engineering. In 1993 the Institute was renamed Tambov State Technical University. More than 50 000 specialists with higher education diplomas have been trained during almost 60 years of university existence. Many university graduates head large industrial enterprises and institutions of the Tambov region and other Russian areas. Now the University presents itself with an integrated continuous education system, including preschool, school, University, and post-graduate levels. This system's basic principles are the availability of education for all social groups, the life-long character of education, a combination of humanitarian and technical courses.

The following formula expresses the university Mission: to receive, store, develop and disseminate knowledge using advanced information technologies, to provide training and consulting services, create unique high tech products, to train competitive specialists for the Russian and international market, to support the economic development of the Tambov region. Now the University comprises eight institutes, four faculties, 46 departments, offers 37 Bachelor programs, 62 Master courses, and four graduate programs in various fields. The total number of students is about 9 000. The University is located in 14 buildings, has a library with a stock of 1500000 books, a learning management system VitaLMS giving access to distance learning technologies, four student hostels, four canteens, a stadium, a swimming pool, camps in the countryside near the river.

The University wireless (Wi-Fi) service is designed as a primary access network for TSTU students and staff. This network provides Wi-Fi coverage inside most buildings, and associated colleges present some outdoor areas of the university campus Pre-university training. The Center for advanced training and retraining is also an essential part of the university structure. These subdivisions, together with the leading institutes and faculties, form a system of continuous education.

TSTU graduates have the opportunity to continue education at the post-graduate school and then at the doctorate. The research results are published in the scientific journals "TSTU Transactions" with abstracts in four languages, "Problems of Contemporary Science and Practice. Vernadsky University", "Advanced Materials and Technologies," "Law: History and Modernity." More than 750 international students and post-graduates from 50 countries study at Tambov State Technical University. Foreign professors come to TSTU to read lectures in joint international projects and programs, University students and employees participate in academic mobility processes, and international conferences are organized: the University is developing rapidly.

Currently, TSTU consists of 8 institutes and four faculties, 46 departments, and three associated colleges providing study in accredited study programs within the complex system of bachelor, specialist, master, and post-graduate levels. Degree programs are compliant with the Bologna system and comprise three levels:

• Bachelor and Specialist programs with four or 5-year periods of study, respectively
• Master programs - 2 years
• Post-graduate programs - 3 or 4 years

Every year TSTU offers about 300 degree and non-degree programs available in seven primary areas:

• Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnologies, Materials and Technologies
• Architecture, Civil Engineering, Municipal, and Urban Engineering
• Power, Tool Engineering and Radio Electronics
• Information and Telecommunication Technologies
• Biotechnologies and Processing of Agricultural Products
• Economics and Law
• Rational Nature Management, Ecology and Energy- and Resource-Saving

TSTU graduates have the opportunity to continue education at the post-graduate school and then at the doctorate. The system of additional professional training and retraining presents itself as an institute comprising ten specialized centers for training and professional development, offering more than 50 study programs being annually renewed considering changeable demands of the economy, industry, and regional labor market. Every year about 2500 specialists from Tambov and neighboring regions get advanced professional training and training in innovative programs. TSTU is on the edge of the science: chemistry, functional and construction materials, nanotechnologies information systems and information security energy- and resource-saving bio-power engineering, new polymer and composite materials, the list of innovative research of TSTU is not completed.
