MEPhI is a research and educational center with honorable traditions and a clear vision of the future where the world’s best tech experts excel in creating applicable science, boost economic output in various fields, support industry and business. MEPhI is a leading Russian university which augments its positions on the global educational scene. MEPhI is proud of ambitious and skilled experts in science and engineering who graduated from the University since its establishment in 1942. Six Nobel laureates contributed to the educational process and research activities at MEPhI. And now, relying on the extensive experience, we are creating a future with a new generation of explorers and inventors. Walking around campus and seeing students from Europe and Asia and international scholars from MIT and Berkeley, you would be surprised to find out that MEPhI was a closed, strategic facility until the 2000s. But that has changed significantly.

MEPhI empowers the world’s best nuclear tech experts and talented students to produce secure and stable energy, excel in creating applicable science, boost human capital and economic output in various fields, support industry and business, and be innovative creative – as much as they want and can. Our overall mission is to energize and improve people’s lives in Russia and globally.

The strategic goal of MEPhI is to become a global leader in education, science, and innovation in nuclear, radiation, sub nano, and nano-technologies and engineering, providing a significant contribution to the innovation-driven growth and the competitiveness of Rosatom State Corporation and other leading Russian high-tech companies in global markets. We collaborate on international projects with organizations and companies such as Rosatom, CERN, Rostec, Apple, Nvidia, Skolkovo, the IAEA, etc. Many of MEPhI’s help energize megaprojects of our time, including the ITER fusion reactor, currently under construction in France, and ALICE and ATLAS high-energy physics experiments at CERN in Switzerland. MEPhI partners with the following universities from student and faculty exchanges to double degree diplomas and research collaboration.

MEPhI transitioned from a system of schools and departments to integrated Strategic Academic Units (Institutes). Strategic Academic Units (Straus) become the main structural element of the University, combining the educational system, scientific and innovative activities, including:

• Focusing on the breakthrough areas where the University remains a recognized leader and possesses unique competencies and competitive excellence.
• Active diversification and development of research in the related and interdisciplinary fields that complement MEPhI’s traditional research agenda to meet global challenges
• Implementation of the breakthrough research projects both in traditional and new areas of research as a core element of Straus’ scientific research agenda
• Further integration into the global educational community: development of new joint international educational programs (e.g., nuclear medicine, IT, high-performance computing) with new partners from different regions, strengthening interaction on the existing programs, the application of best international practices.
