The Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University is one of the oldest universities in the Far East. Founded in 1890 in Vladivostok, the Alexander Nautical Classes laid the foundation for maritime education in Primorsky Krai. The Nevelskoy MSU trains specialists of all spheres required for the sea transportation system in natural sciences, humanities, engineering, and marine areas under the Convention. The University is the first Russian Maritime State University, one of the leading universities in the Asia-Pacific region and authoritative research and methodological center of maritime education. The Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University, as part of the national maritime training system, believes its service to the Russian state, Russian society, and fleet is the meaning of its existence to develop the educational, scientific, and cultural potential of the Fatherland.
The educational community of the Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University, the center of maritime training, science, and culture of the Far East, takes the high quality of its activity results as a value basis and as a resource to fulfill the Mission of its Service to the Fatherland. Following the Russian State Education Standard, a multi-level higher education system is implemented: Bachelor for four years, Specialist for five years, and Master for six years. A complex of the programs is a continuous maritime training system from the basic to postgraduate one. The educational programs are implemented based on the continuous maritime training system. The curricula allow cadets and students to choose the level of training while learning. Forward-looking training of specialists is conducted at all stages of education at the University, given the prospects of development of Russian water transport and maritime infrastructure of the Far East.
The Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University trains specialists to work onboard sea and river vessels for sea and river ports, factories, transport terminals, power complexes, etc. It trains bachelors in onshore specialties: development of information products for the system of protection of marine areas and coastal zones against oil pollution, operating special machinery and equipment on oil and gas fields, managers and economists for enterprises in the sphere of sea transport, maritime lawyers and others, including specialists in humanities. The Admiral Nevelskoy MSU includes the Lyceum, two colleges, and three branches that train working professions and provide secondary professional education.
The Federal budget educational institution Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University implements primary, secondary, higher education, postgraduate and further professional education, vocational training, general education programs (secondary (complete) general education, basic general education, primary general education). The history of the Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University as a higher education institution dates back to 1944.
The score-rating system of students’ knowledge evaluation is being worked through during three years at the University. In recent years, the University is actively using federal Internet-exams in professional education, which contributes to developing the quality assurance system of educational activities based on independent external evaluation. Training of the teaching staff is carried out in postgraduate and doctoral studies at the University in 19 research areas. Licensed Dissertation Advisory Committees have been established at the University. Since 1999, the targeted support for applicants and their supervisors has been provided. The University selects, examines, and promotes advanced research and technological developments. The Maritime University remains one of the few universities in Russia where the military department has been preserved. The teachers who served in the Navy and military units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation provide training for future reserve officers.
Our researchers investigate the reliability of marine technical facilities, test soft and flexible structures in sea transport. They work to increase the efficiency of engineered navigation aids, including the use of laser technologies. They also develop energy- and resource-saving and environmental technologies in transport and energy. They develop technologies of desalination and the use of seawater in ships. They work to improve transport technologies and methods of sea transport management, introduce Internet technologies, and research anthropology, psychology, and behavior of marine fleet specialists in extreme conditions. The Nevelskoy MSU organizes and holds sports events. The main ones are the traditional Nevelskoy MSU Regatta, the Nevelskoy Cup Regatta, the Rector’s Prize Open Volleyball Competition, the Nevelskoy MSU Comprehensive Spartakiad for cadets and students, and others. About 20% of the students and cadets are involved in all sports events, including the training process. Because the University belongs to the maritime sector, the course has been held on developing water sports such as rowing and sailing. Today, the sailing school is open, where students and cadets and all the children in Vladivostok are trained.
