North West Christian School has been providing quality Christian education to the northwest community since 1975. It is situated with the Bass Strait’s panoramic views, Penguin township, and rural views back to the Dial Range. The school cultivates and encourages an atmosphere of tolerance and respect for others, including peers, parents, and teachers. There is a recognition of differences and affirmation of individual skills, abilities, and positive personal attributes. Students are encouraged to do their best at all times and to participate in community and charity projects.
The future holds many challenges and opportunities. With more parents concerned about our uncertain future, they are looking for an education for their children to equip them mentally, socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually to deal positively with the challenges ahead. North West Christian School offers parents the values-based education they are looking for.
Here at NWCS, the theme of Nurture, Learning, and Character run through our whole program. Our goal is to nurture students as they grow through those impressionable years. We educate the whole person so that they can make a positive contribution to the broader community. Finally, they can develop a character that will carry them through their future life and into Eternity.
Education does not just book knowledge. Education equips a person with skills that will benefit them, and others, in adulthood. Education is the development of a Character that has solid values as its base. This will give them a grounding that can weather the storms that may come their way. That’s what we want for our students.
All registered schools in Tasmania follow and teach the Australian curriculum and its eight key learning areas. These are English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, The Arts, Technologies, and Languages.
We are a registered school and follow the Australian curriculum and actively participate in regular audits performed by the Education Department of Tasmania.
At NWCS, we appreciate the role of education in building and equipping our students to be successful contributors in their communities and to develop a richer understanding of our world. This is achieved through supporting the key eight learning areas, and allowing students to engage, discover, explain, and extend their learning.
Sport is an integral part of our curriculum to develop a variety of skills and personal resilience. Athletics and swimming lessons are run every year, while the senior students are involved in hiking, kayaking, camping, and learning ropes (see extra programs - outdoor recreation). NWCS does not teach the Safe Schools program. In contrast, we have a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of bullying, and students are taught Christian principles of self-worth and respect for others.
