IGS enjoys a cosmopolitan setting near the Sydney CBD, close to public transport and several major universities. At IGS, we believe in limitless learning, empowered students, and a sustainable future. With a focus on equipping our students to be world-ready, we believe that languages and intercultural understanding form a gateway to the world. Research tells us that bilingualism enhances learning. We are passionate about our core values of diversity, personal achievement, connectedness, vibrancy, and authenticity, and we invite you to find out more.
At International Grammar School, studying a second language is compulsory for all students from Preschool to Year 10. Second language options include Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. During bilingual partial immersion from Preschool to Year 6, children’s skills develop as they sing songs, play games, and create artworks together. Selected units of the core curriculum are delivered in their second language.
IGS students continue to study their second language in Years 7 to 10. For those entering the School at Year 7, a particular beginner class is offered in one, or sometimes two, second languages. All students commence a third language in Year 7, which may be continued as an elective subject from Year 9. The third language program currently includes Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin). All languages can be studied in Year 12.
Our core values reflect a charter of diversity, individual and social responsibility, and respect for self and others. International Grammar School was founded on the principles of bilingual learning and respect for diversity. This same vision continues to take the School through the 21st Century, equipping students to be world-ready.
With the strategic aspirations of limitless learning, empowered students, and a sustainable future, we deliver our vision, inspiring collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Our broad curriculum, enriched by languages and music, includes exciting developments in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) learning. Our vibrant learning community is located in the nation’s most creative, dynamic, digital precinct, a short walk to UTS, and the University of Sydney. We are committed to inciting passionate and creative learning.
