Your focus is on Christ-centered student learning. We strive to live out and model biblical values daily. Education is seen through the lens of a Christian worldview. Students are guided to see themselves as Jesus sees them and encouraged them to be that person. Teachers intentionally build relationships with their students to provide a safe and secure learning environment. When students feel safe, they can participate in engaging and challenging activities teachers provide as they can take risks in their learning.
We believe students should know what they are learning, how to be successful in that learning, and be supported by the teacher’s feedback. Teaching may be explicit, as well as consolidating knowledge and skills. At Cornerstone, we care as much about character as academic achievement. Character development is essential if our students are to be successful learners and valued citizens of the future. We encourage our students to be outward-looking and to serve the community when opportunities arise. We may do this through fundraising (e.g., Market Day), attendance at community events (e.g., ANZAC Day), or providing a community service (e.g., visiting elderly residents in care facilities).
Providing adequate support for our students is a priority at Cornerstone. We have a dedicated Learning Support Centre that can work intensively with small groups of students. Our Learning and Support Coordinator works collaboratively with teachers to develop individual education plans with teachers referring students for academic testing as they deem necessary.
The services of the School Psychologist (through the Association of Independent Schools in WA) and a Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist (Naturaliste Community Health Centre) are also called in to consult, assess and provide programs and suggestions for students who are at educational risk. The College has also employed Education Assistants (EAs) working throughout the primary school in Busselton, including our Early Learning Centre.
