West Virginia Wesleyan creates a unique learning environment that enables our students to develop the skills, values, relationships, and perspectives that will allow them to obtain employment, enhance their employment, and be leaders throughout their lives. They are well prepared to be successful and respected citizens of a rapidly changing world.

The personal attention our students receive has an undeniable impact on their outcomes. Small class sizes and a low student-to-faculty ratio create an intimate, caring learning environment that produces an impressive number of Fulbright Scholars and other notable academic achievements.

West Virginia Wesleyan College challenges its students to a lifelong commitment to developing their intellectual, ethical, spiritual, and leadership potential and setting and upholding excellence standards.

Firmly rooted in the liberal arts tradition and closely related to The United Methodist Church, the College is a community of learning based on fundamental principles formed at the intersection of Christian faith and liberal education: intellectual rigor, self-discovery, human dignity, mutual support, social justice, self-discipline, mental and physical wellness, the appreciation of diversity and the natural world, and the judicious use of resources.

The College recognizes and affirms its interdependence with the external communities-local, regional, national, and global-and its covenant with the people of West Virginia to share its educational and cultural resources.

West Virginia Wesleyan College prepares its students through its curriculum of arts and sciences, preprofessional, professional, graduate studies, and its rich campus life program. As a residential institution of higher education, the College aspires to graduate broadly educated men and women who:

    • Think critically and creatively.
    • Communicate effectively.
    • Act responsibly.
    • Demonstrate their local and world citizenship through service.

Wesleyan students have the opportunity to explore any of our 56 undergraduate majors, 38 minors, and four graduate programs. They include focused research within your given field and exploration and study within various departments and courses through our general education program. If you are not sure what you want to study, do not worry! Our faculty and staff are dedicated to helping you find your academic voice, and the family you will build here will give you the chance to find the major that fits your passion.

Students may select a minor to complement or support their major program. The selection of an academic minor is optional. In addition to the minors listed below, a student may design a contract minor combining related courses from more than one department. Planned on consultation with two faculty advisors and subject to Curriculum Council approval, such a contract minor should include 9-12 hours in one of the sponsoring departments. It should not overlap courses in the major. Guidelines are available in the Office of the Registrar.

WVWC's Preprofessional Programs allow students to tailor their courses and research towards completing further study after graduating. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor or advising staff in Academic Services about majors and electives that best fit their individual needs. These programs are not degree-granting majors.

Wesleyan's graduate programs are designed for students who have just completed their undergraduate degree or are working adults balancing career and family priorities with graduate education goals. Our graduate programs provide professional growth that can be completed at your pace, ranging from one-year intensive programs to one course per semester over four to five years.

Home is more than a place. It is the feeling of safety and freedom you get from close relationships. Here, at West Virginia Wesleyan College, you can discover your passion. Here, you are free to be authentic. Here, you are nurtured and protected while you question, learn, and grow. Here, you belong. Because here, you are home.

On our residential campus, the student experience goes beyond the classroom. We're here to help students make the most of every aspect of their life on campus. With so many avenues to customize your experience through the hall you live in, to the clubs you join, to events you attend, there's no need to be a spectator while you're here.

We care not just about your want our students active and healthy! There are many opportunities for you to reach your fitness goals, compete in intramural sports, get out in nature, and enjoy the Mountain State's beauty!

Wesleyan's student life program features 21 NCAA II teams, regionally-renowned performing arts groups, intramurals, outdoor recreation, nine national fraternities, and sororities, religious life, over 70 campus organizations, and the Center for Community Engagement & Leadership Development.

Wesleyan's education is personal. Each campus office is staffed with professionals here to help with anything--From information technology to support for a new club or organization--you can genuinely make this education your own.

Students at West Virginia Wesleyan College have access to resources developed just for our students and resources developed for all college students. The Title III team will improve student services through the development of the Student Success Center and enhance faculty development through the existing Center for Teaching and Learning by providing opportunities for faculty to learn and implement new teaching strategies.
