Each student is an individual at UNCP. Our students get a chance to make names for themselves – to stand out in a warm and welcoming community that wants them to succeed – and experience a rare combination of opportunities, cultures, and ideas that can't be found anywhere else.
Located in the Southeast North Carolina town of Pembroke, UNCP has a rich American Indian history and is one of the safest campuses in the University of North Carolina system. With small class sizes, a low student-faculty ratio, and one of the most diverse campuses in the nation, UNCP is a growing university that empowers students to go on to live vibrant, fulfilling lives.
Pembroke now serves a distinctly diverse student body and encourages inclusion and appreciation for all people's values. UNC Pembroke exists to promote excellence in teaching and learning, at the master's and undergraduate levels, in an environment of free inquiry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and rigorous intellectual standards.
Our diversity and commitment to personalized teaching uniquely prepare our students for rewarding careers, postgraduate education, leadership roles, and fulfilling lives. We cultivate an international perspective, rooted in our service to and appreciation of our multi-ethnic regional society, which prepares citizens for engagement in the global community. Students are encouraged to participate in activities that develop their intellectual curiosity and mold them into responsible stewards of the world.
UNCP faculty and staff are dedicated to active student learning, engaged scholarship, high academic standards, creative activity, and public service. We celebrate our heritage as we enhance the region's intellectual, cultural, economic, and social life.

Working from a strong foundation in the liberal arts, we will increase opportunities to infuse our curriculum with interdisciplinary innovation while promoting undergraduate and graduate research and international options.

Through their participation in research, UNC Pembroke's faculty, students, and staff embrace engaged scholarship as a means to further the Institution's mission to "enhance the intellectual, cultural, economic, and social life of the region."
Research not only invigorates our campus's intellectual climate but also serves to improve the quality of life in our community and region. With countless opportunities to learn, explore and strengthen the skills you care about most, as well as the benefits that come from small class sizes, excellent faculty, and a tightly-knit community that cares, UNC Pembroke students get a unique opportunity to make a name for themselves here.
Our faculty and staff are some of the best you'll find anywhere. With nearly 60 percent of our instructors holding at least a Ph.D., they're an incredibly knowledgeable teaching professional group. They are truly willing to go the extra mile to make sure their students are successful. Nearly half of our classes have fewer than 20 students. Classes aren't held in massive auditoriums, allowing students to find the personal attention they need to truly build on and master the concepts key to their success.
UNC Pembroke calls the small town of Pembroke, N.C., home. It's a welcoming community that cares about you and ultimately wants to help you meet your goals in life. That sentiment is echoed by our students, faculty, and an administration that wakes up every morning, striving to achieve success. You'll have all the support you need to thrive at UNC Pembroke.
