Located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River minutes from downtown New Orleans, the Holy Cross University is one of the South's most unique educational experiences.
The University was founded in 1916 as Our Lady of Holy Cross College, a Ministry of the Marianites of Holy Cross. It was created to educate and prepare teachers for work in the many schools the Marianites were opening across South Louisiana. The University's continued unwavering connection to the Marianite Sisters' beliefs and its roots in educating those who would eventually teach others are both parts of the foundation that makes the UHC experience so unique.
For our students, this means smaller classes, a faith-based atmosphere, and more personal attention from a great, responsive team of professionals. It means collaborating in an exciting, entrepreneurial environment where the focus is always excellence. It means the support of a compassionate, caring faculty, and staff all dedicated to making sure you get the most out of your educational experience. Ultimately, it means you leave the University of Holy Cross prepared for life.
The University of Holy Cross is a unique Catholic institution of higher learning founded by the Marianites of Holy Cross. Rooted in a belief in human dignity, the University of Holy Cross educates its students' minds and hearts. The University is centered on effective and innovative teaching; intelligence exercised across disciplines, practical reasoning, and communication with others. All university members strive for excellence and contribute their knowledge and experience in their chosen work, community, and, ultimately, the world in need.
We believe that Education flourishes in a community motivated by a Catholic Christian vision, Gospel values, and a commitment to the total person's Education. We accept the responsibility to respond to our students' needs by challenging and empowering them to develop holistically in the attainment of knowledge, skills, and values necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world.
As UHC approaches its centennial, there is much to celebrate. We offer leading academic programs in Nursing, Counseling, Education, and many other disciplines. We're working to establish our second doctoral program in Education. Our graduates-4,500 strong-distinguish themselves as top-notch professionals throughout the region. We have new academic programs and innovative ways to learn in the works.
UHC was founded by the Marianites of Holy Cross and prided itself on its mission to educate our students' hearts and minds. Small classes and caring instructors aid us in fulfilling that mission. We offer two doctoral degrees, seven master's degrees, twenty-two bachelor's degrees, and six associate's degrees—thirty-seven in all. Multiple concentrations and tracks within degree programs expand the offerings even further.
Teaching and learning are aided by an outstanding faculty and reinforced through a wealth of support services. The Center for Teaching and Learning, the Blaine S. Kern Library, the Office of Student Life, Campus Ministry, and the Thomas E. Chambers Counseling and Training Center are prime examples of that commitment. In conjunction with our latest accreditation review by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, the University has opted to expand its support services through a quality enhancement plan for writing in the disciplines titled, Let's Write, Right. Its overarching goal is to prepare all students graduating with a baccalaureate degree to enter their professional careers with the communication skills needed for success and advancement.
Financial Aid staff members are dedicated to helping students pursue their educational goals by providing financial information and services in a professional and individualized manner. The Financial Aid staff exists to help students seek, obtain, and make the best use of all available financial resources.
The University of Holy Cross provides opportunities for students to learn from cultures different from their own. Students from other countries are welcomed to study at the University of Holy Cross. Also, exciting international programs are offered at the college.
UHC welcomes students from countries outside the United States. The college offers a personalized study environment for international students. The culturally diverse city of New Orleans is an excellent place for students from other countries to live and learn.
International students interested in studying at UHC are invited to read the requirements for admission and contact the Office of Admissions with questions. UHC offers enrolled students opportunities to visit other countries and learn about academic areas from an international perspective. UHC students who attend study abroad programs earn three academic credits, and their tuition is waived. Professionals and students from other colleges and universities are invited to participate in UHC study abroad programs. Professionals earn three continuing education hours, and students from other colleges and universities pay half tuition for three academic credits.
Your overall Education is critical, but everyone knows that landing a great job is where your time here at UHC pays off. The Univesity of Holy Cross Career Services provides progressive, aggressive services and resources to help students navigate their job search and preparation process.
