Tours to ancient towns and natural attractions of the Crimea are held regularly for foreigners to get acquainted with our peninsula's culture and sights. We are sure that while studying at Medical Academy, our students become not only good doctors but also highly-educated, culturally, and inquisitive people.

Already for 45 years, foreign citizens have been studying at the Medical academy. In 1961 six students from Greece came to us. In 1962 there were 22 students from Iraq, Sudan, Yemen. With every coming year, the contingent of students has been increasing, and several countries, citizens of which have been studying at Crimean State Medical Institute. More than 2.5 thousand specialists have been trained for health services in more than 100 countries for these years.

Stable development of scientific schools and long-term scientific directions is realized in the conditions of active international cooperation with medical faculties, scientific research institutes, scientific centers, and leading laboratories of many countries. Belarus, Ukraine, France, Germany, Austria, U.K., Sweden, Poland, USA, Canada, India, and Malaysia are among mutual scientific programs. Collaborators of the Academy work with foreign partners in 16 international and 13 state programs.

Today the department of biochemistry and biotechnology laboratory (Central Scientific and Research Laboratory – CSRL) – (Professor K. A. Efetov), the department of physiology –(Professor E. V. Moreover, the Medical Academy's four clinical departments are testing medicinal preparations according to the international agreement concluded with the leading pharmaceutical firms. More and more often, specialists of the Medical Academy take part in the scientists' international meetings. Only for the last two years, more than 60 collaborators of the Academy have visited conferences and congresses of the highest level in the world's leading countries. The development of international relations in modern conditions provides a high level of the Academy's scientific and pedagogical potential owing to the acquired knowledge, experience, and mental outlook broadening. Scientific activity of the Academy collaborators contributes to integration for solving urgent scientific questions of world medicine.

Scientific research is carried out almost at all the departments, in the central research laboratory and separate scientific laboratories of the Academy. These are the laboratories of clinical immunology, physiology and ecological medicine, microbiology, morphology with electronic microscopy, biotechnology, functional path morphology and surfactant therapy, pharmacology, experimental pathophysiology, immunohistochemistry, and lectin histochemistry, experimental medicine, protein chemistry, and protein complexes.

The privileged direction of the scientific research among the Academy scientists is connected with different national programs regarding our population's health care. The programs on health resort treatment, ecology, tuberculosis, oncology, diabetes mellitus, mother and child health care, AIDS are of great importance.

The clinical departments of Medical Academy are situated at 38 clinical bases throughout Crimea. The workers of clinical departments participate in local and national programs and projects directed toward the rural population's support, reduction of maternal and infant death rate, fight against tuberculosis, cancer, etc. There are several Medical Academy activities undertaken together with medical establishments, namely theoretical and practical conferences, the introduction of new diagnostic and treatment methods into the medical practice, lectures in Epidemiology and Phthisiology for students and resident physicians, different mass media programs intended to influence health behaviors of the public, medical services in different regions of the Crimea.
