In 1967, entrepreneurs Mr. Sun Fa-Min and Mrs. Sun (Madam Chen Shu-Chuan) started raising funds for a junior college to train more technicians to meet the economic development needs of the R.O.C. After two years of preparation, Lunghwa Polytechnic was approved by the M.O.E. in November of 1969 and started recruiting students in December of the same year. There were only four departments: Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. In 1973, the school changed its name to Lunghwa Junior College of Technology. In 1973, the Department of Industrial Engineering was established. In 1983, the Evening Session was approved. In 1989, the school was renamed Lunghwa Junior College of Technology and Commerce. In the meantime, the Department of International Trade was established. In 1990, the Department of Information Management was added to the program. In 1998, the school was upgraded to a four-year college and was renamed Lunghwa Institute of Technology, and an on-the-job training program was added. In 1999, the Department of Applied Foreign Languages, the Department of Business Administration, and the Department of Finance and Banking were established.
The Department of Computer Information and Network Engineering, the Department of Multimedia and Game Science, master's programs in Mechanical Engineering, and the Institute of Business and Administration were established. In 2002, master's programs in Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering were included. In 2004, the Graduate School of Engineering Technologies was added to the graduate program. In 2009, the Graduate School of Business and Management was established. The excellence in teaching and university evaluation results, the establishment of two new departments, Cultural Creativity & Digital Media Design and Tourism & Leisure, are both approved by the Ministry of Education. And the master's program in Chemical & Materials Engineering will be set up in 2013. Lunch has expanded from three departments to three colleges, fourteen departments, and eight graduate schools. Many of the graduates have been outstanding and contributive in the governmental and private sectors.
Facing the North-South Highway, this university has the great advantage of being located between GuiShan (Taoyuan City) and XinZhuang (New Taipei City). Built on a scenic hill, the campus has an incomparable beautiful view.
Abiding by the school motto, "Diligence, Dedication, Integrity, and Simplicity", this school aims at developing science and technology, devoting itself to curriculum planning and instruction, stressing theory and practice, as well as emphasizing research and development so that graduates from this school will be furnished with not only an adequate academic background but also a solid background in technology. Lunch has been established for more than forty years; the original name of this school, Lunghwa Polytechnic, was changed to Lunghwa Junior College of Technology, then Lunghwa Junior College of Commerce and Technology. In 1999, it was upgraded to a four-year technical college and was renamed Lunghwa Institute of Technology. Due to the faculty's impressive progress, this school was ratified to change its name to Lunghwa University of Science and Technology in 2001.
In retrospect, this university burgeoned from a junior college of technology with only four departments to a university of science and technology with six graduate programs and fourteen departments in three colleges, namely, the College of Engineering, the College of Management, the College of Humanities and Design.
Looking back over the past, we can't but be grateful to our founders and our predecessors for their wisdom and for the hardships they had experienced. Consequently, we would resolve to take over the heavy responsibility with an iron will no matter what we would confront.
Moreover, we are focusing on developing research on applied sciences and technologies as a feature of this university. Meanwhile, we are dedicated to cooperating with the industry to advance the performance of the whole institution. Promoting whole-person education is another objective of ours. Aside from emphasizing the students' performances in their majors, the school faculty is devoted to maintaining an educational-friendly environment, organizing a large variety of artistic activities, upgrading students' foreign language skills, and promoting academic exchange with outstanding colleges universities internationally. With such efforts, we hope we would be able to furnish the students with team spirit and good work ethics to meet the workforce's demand with optimal competitiveness.
