    There are many good reasons why you might choose to study at the University of Lucerne. Aside from the attractive range of study programs on offer, the youngest university in Switzerland distinguishes itself by offering a more personal atmosphere for students while also prioritizing its international networks.
    At the University of Lucerne, we strive to ensure that we provide ideal conditions for national and international mobility. The continued enlargement of our international network is also a high priority. The mobility services provided at the International Relations Office are for students and staff alike.
    The University of Lucerne research committee (FoKo) is responsible for promoting research activities and coordinating research policy. It also serves as the research committee for the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) for the University of Lucerne (FK-SNSF) and awards mobility grants for emerging researchers (Doc. Mobility and Early Postdoc. Mobility). The University Promotion Office is the central, professional contact point for all matters relating to promotion and support via private third-party funding.
    The Generic Skills courses are directed towards students who are doing a doctorate/Ph.D. and the mid-level faculty and are free of charge for them. For external doctorate students, the courses are subject to charge. The program serves the in-depth study of interdisciplinary topics and supports young researchers during their academic careers. Some courses also prepare the students for their working life outside of the university.
    The Services regularly invite to a Brown Bag. At the 'Info Lunch', you will receive information on procedures and particular support. Also, projects will be introduced. Besides, the 'Info Lunch' is an excellent platform to ask questions and meet people. All employees of the University of Lucerne are invited. The target audience of the InfoLunch Spezial is researchers and lecturers.
    The University Association (Universitätsverein Luzern) promotes the University of Lucerne's development, strengthens its ties to the community, and provides funding for procurement. People with physical or mental disabilities or chronic illnesses often face significant challenges and obstacles during their studies. Lucerne University strives to remove these obstacles and create a level playing field.
    Health insurance is taken out on an individual basis. Adults must take the necessary steps by contacting a health insurance company of their choice. Each insured person pays an individual premium that is not dependent upon income. This premium varies depending upon the insurance provider, the place of residence, and the form of insurance cover. The insured person is free to choose their health insurance provider.
    The University of Lucerne offers a German language course for non-German-mother-tongue students with a Swiss university entrance qualification (Matura) to give them the language skills they need for their degree. The course is mainly aimed at students from Ticino and Romandie. Providing places are available, exchange students and other international students of the University of Lucerne with prior knowledge of German. Students can register online.
    Incoming exchange students without previous knowledge or little knowledge of German (levels A and B) can visit a free German language class directly before the commencement of their exchange semester. During the semester, a continued course is offered by the University of Lucerne. Additional language classes are offered for reduced fees by our various partner institutions located in Lucerne. The University of Lucerne offers its exchange students and other eligible audience a free 'Pre-Semester German Short Course.'This course is intended to prepare students for their studies in Lucerne. Within levels A and B, courses will be divided according to class level and the number of participants. The course covers the four core skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing for everyday life in Lucerne. The focus lies on communicative skills and vocabulary. Everyday situations will be covered, for instance, introducing yourself and others, living and working in Lucerne, numbers, money and time expressions, leisure activities, food, shopping, etc. Besides classroom-based sessions, participants will also practice their skills in everyday situations and get to know Lucerne and the Swiss way of life.
    The Psychological Advice Centre of the University of Lucerne, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), and the University of Teacher Education (PHLU) offer students, lecturers and employees support, advice, and assistance in specific stress situations and with problems connected with university study or everyday professional life. In the first instance, the focus of the advice lies with the students and their issues regarding their studies if required, lecturers and employees can also access the advice where it involves a matter connected with the supervision and support of students or difficulties in a professional context.
    The Faculty of Law at the University of Lucerne has been offering the promise scholarship program since the fall semester of 2011. This program, run alongside studies, supports particularly able and ambitious students and doctoral candidates. It ensures that the needs of these students and doctoral candidates and society and the labor market are met in a targeted fashion. This form of the support program is unique among law faculties in Switzerland. In addition to specialist knowledge, the program also focuses on promoting more general skills. Therefore, the support program also includes further training in the fields of communication, management and conflict resolution, interdisciplinary courses in areas such as business administration, or classes to increase social and cultural skills.
