Bashkir State University is a shining example of a classical higher education establishment, and classical education has always been of value under any conditions. For over 100 years, Bashkir State University has been training highly qualified professionals for various economies. Our University graduates work successfully in the Republic of Bashkortostan, but all over Russia and in a lot of foreign countries. Over the last few years, Bashkir State University has become a large center for postgraduate studies, which provides for the successful operating of postgraduate courses in 56 scientific majors and doctoral courses in 8 scientific majors. There are ten doctoral and three candidate dissertation councils responsible for defense and awarding academic degrees in 23 majors. Bashkir State University is the oldest higher educational establishment in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Its origin was 1909, when Ufa Teacher Training Institute became the first higher educational establishment in Bashkortostan. Later on, it was transformed into the Institute of Public Education in 1919 and K.A. Timiryazev Bashkir State Pedagogical Institute in 1929. Since 1957 the University has had its status of Bashkir State University. Now BashSU is the largest educational, scientific and cultural center of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
The contemporary image of Bashkir State University may be described with the help of figures. Today the University incorporates 15 faculties and three branches situated in Sibai, Sterlitamak, and Neftekamsk; the number of students is over 27,000. About 2,000 educational workers, including 310 Doctors and 960 Candidates of Sciences, are engaged in academic, scientific, and educational activities. Training is provided in more than 150 majors and areas, including the second stage of higher education, i.e., MA courses. BashSU has more than 145 academic departments and over 100 school and scientific laboratories; the scientific library holdings amount to 1.5 mln book copies. And most importantly, Bashkir State University has graduated more than 113,000 professionals over 100 years of its existence.

Each year, more than 500 postgraduate and doctoral students study here, which accounts for one-third of Bashkortostan's postgraduate and doctoral students. The University is an active participant in international integrative activities in the sphere of education and science. More than 30 association agreements have been concluded with universities in the USA, the FRG, Turkey, France, Italy, Egypt, Hungary, Japan, and China, and Iranian and Egyptian Embassies in Moscow (for Arabic and Persian). Thanks to these agreements, 88 Bashkir State University students and postgraduates are currently studying in foreign universities.
Bashkir State University has always been famous for science, education, culture, art, and sport. This tradition only gets more vital over time. Every new generation of students and teachers contributes something to the University's life. New bright names are discovered continuously, thanks to which the University's history is getting richer with every passing year. And this is how it should be, for Bashkir State University is a significant period in every student and employee's life. In 2009 Bashkir State University celebrated its 100th anniversary. Today, it is a dynamically and steadily developing educational establishment and has every possibility of implementing the Program for Modernizing Higher Education and providing quality professional training for the Republic of Bashkortostan and the whole country. There is every reason to believe that Bashkir State University will celebrate many anniversaries to come. The main thing is to train professionals who will be in demand in any sphere of activity.
