The main objective of the "George Enescu" the National University of Arts is the organization and the shaping of education in the national priority domain Art, which includes the following options for graduation: "Music" (with the specializations Performance, Music Education, Composition, Musicology, Conducting, Religious music), Visual arts (with the specializations: Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Photography-Video, Fashion, Textile arts, Mural art, Art education – art teacher, Conservation-Restoration, Design) and Drama (with the specializations: Acting, the Art of puppetry, Theatrology).

To the same extent, the University stands as a beacon of culture, militating for the protection, preservation, and promotion of Romanian artistic creation to foster and develop a taste for beauty and authentic creations.

The «George Enescu» National University of Arts from Iaşi works as a State institution according to the Romanian Constitution, the Education Laws, the By-Laws of the teaching personnel, and the Human Rights Declaration. The University is a higher education institution that has as a mission:

    • To shape the personality of future artists and to contribute to the development of Romanian and universal culture.
    • To train specialists in the domain of Art (music, visual arts, Drama) for the specialized education system."

The endeavor to excel in three different art domains causes the University of Arts "George Enescu" of Iaşi to have a particular art education configuration. It meets the requirements of quality and diversity of the education offered, whose parameters are determined at the national and international level, with a permanent connection to the domain's international reality.

We are going through a time of exploration, resettling, and definition. It is not only the imperatives of the Bologna Process – the creation before 2010 of a European Higher Education Space – that spurs us on and the natural connection to the immediate reality. The Iaşi school of artistic higher education, which was a pioneer amongst the similar institutions in the country, has a special status that, at the same time, honors it and implies responsibility: it reunites under the same flag music, fine arts, and Drama. These domains, each with a well-defined profile, often have not only meeting points, but even points where they blend music takes on theatre's liveliness, the fine arts borrow from the harmony of music, Drama borrows from the eurhythmics of color.

And it is only natural for things to be this way in an institution that is the heir, keeper, and continuator of a tradition legitimizing an entire national spirituality. Here in Iaşi, influential people – from Eduard Caudella and George Enescu to Ion Baciu, from Nicolae Tonitza and Ion Irimescu to Ion Neagoe, from Gheorghe Asachi, Matei Millo, Vasile Alecsandri to Mihai Codreanu and Agatha Bârsescu, the elite of the Romanian artistic scene – have worked, with their gift and devotion, for the enrichment of our treasure of beauty, of soul nobility.

The present time of the Iaşi school of artistic higher education is looking towards the future. And the future means mutual knowledge and collaboration. We are convinced that our national values deserve to be known and appreciated on the international art scene, the same way as the world-scale artistic movement is the background and the foundation for harmonizing our explorations with those of the rest of the world. The University of Arts "George Enescu" has established research centers with international collaboration, fostering important relations with specialists from other countries. Our graduates work on their Ph.D. papers in Canada, while Ph.D. candidates from Germany, Greece, Israel do their work under the guidance of the specialists at the Iaşi Arts University.

To be part of this future, our students get prepared to enter their professional life as double specialists: as professional artists and as educators and trainers for the generations that will come after them. Both specializations are crucial for the future of the world of sounds, colors, image expression. Between the practice in front of the easel, in the concert hall, or the theatre and the activity at the teacher's desk, subtle and permanent bridges are cast. We are always committed to work for the durability of these bridges and keeping them fully connected to the imperatives of the time. A glorious tradition requests, and justifiably so, verticality and continued dignity for the act of creation.
