Khyber Medical College

Peshawar, a city of over 2.6 million citizens, is situated in the Western part of the Country and close to the historical and famous Khyber Pass. The City is an old settlement and has maintained a historical atmosphere. Khyber Medical College, which is situated at the doorstep of Peshawar's university, occupies the site of an ancient Buddhist academy. In 1954, the foundation stone of Khyber Medical College, as faculty of Medicine, of Peshawar University, was laid by the then Governor-General of Pakistan. It remained under the administrative control of the health department after parting way from Peshawar University in 1975. Presently, the college and hospital have been given administrative and financial autonomy by the Government of K.P.K. and is working under the institutional management committee, headed by Chief Executive.
Khyber Medical College is a pioneer institution in K.P.K. in medical education. It has created a name for itself at the national and international level through its staff and students' dedicated work.
Today, Khyber Medical College enrolls 287 students yearly, and our graduates, numbering over 8000, are providing health care, not only in K.P.K. and FATA but also in the rest of the Country. Also, our graduates are holding key positions both at home and abroad. Besides undergraduate medical education, the college offers teaching and research facilities to postgraduate students, i.e., M.Phil, in all basic Medical Sciences, FCPS in Clinical and basic medical sciences, and minor diplomas in many specialties. The college is affiliated with Peshawar University and is recognized by PMDC. General Medical Council of UK, Ireland and licensing authority of U.S.A. Khyber Teaching Hospital, established in 1976, is attached to the college for teaching/training purposes. It is a 1200-bedded hospital, which maintains high standards with competent medical staff and sophisticated equipment.
The Pakistan Medical Research Council (PMRC) has established a research center within the college premises. It is a well-equipped center where research facilities are provided in all disciplines of medical sciences. The college has a well-established Medical Education Dept. where courses on various subjects are organized periodically. Also, workshops, symposiums, and seminars are organized by the Department for the faculty members.
The college has a well-established library consisting of three portions, i.e., a lending part for students, a reference part for teachers, and a part containing periodicals. The library is well furnished, air-conditioned, and offers extensive collections of books and periodicals to meet the teacher's and students' requirements. Separate hostels for boys and girls are situated within the premises of Peshawar University. Over the year, the students of Khyber Medical College distinguished their Alma Mater by extending self-less services to ailing humanity with devotion and dedication, acquiring higher and specialized knowledge in various medical disciplines, and actively participating in co-curricular extracurricular activities. In this regard, the college's literary society plays a vital role for the student to keep them closer to each other and project their talents through this forum. CENNA, the official annual magazine of Khyber Medical College, is highly regarded as an outstanding magazine of its kind.
