Oman Dental College has a high-level International Advisory Panel (IAP) that comprises three internationally renowned experts and dentistry specialists. Collectively, the members are the Panel, which provides advice on all aspects of the College, including the BDS degree program structure, content, and processes to ensure these are in keeping with contemporary international best dental education practices.
Our mission is "To provide quality dental education of the highest international standards and contribute towards the progress and development of national oral healthcare provision through health promotion, disease prevention and care by the education and training of skilled, competent, ethical, and caring dental professionals."
Our vision is "To excel internationally and particularly in the Middle East as a prestigious institute and center of reference for dental education through the utilization of modern technology, an evidence-based curriculum and contemporary techniques that nurture skilled and caring dental professionals who value lifelong learning and fulfill patient expectations."
At ODC, you will be guided, as an aspiring dental surgeon working towards your dental degree, by an excellent academic and clinical faculty with many years of teaching and clinical experience.
The program of study leading to the BDS Degree at ODC is tailored to international standards, designed to prepare you to begin safe and independent practice as a competent dental surgeon. In keeping with its contemporary international approach to dental education, ODC is an associate member of the Association for Dental Education in Europe and benefits from a highly reputable academic affiliation and International Advisory Panel.
ODC has an international academic affiliation with the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM).
The Faculty of Dentistry at UCM also has several agreements with various universities and dental schools worldwide, providing student and faculty exchange programs. As Academic Affiliate, UCM makes regular visits to ODC and supports ensuring academic provision at ODC is maintained to contemporary international and European standards.
As the medium of instruction at ODC is English, the Predental foundation year is designed to provide school leavers with a strong foundation in preparation for the BDS program's academic component. Consequently, for those who require this, up to 750 contact hours are allocated towards teaching and learning in English Language skills, particularly in the critical areas of comprehension, speaking, and writing by experienced English teachers. Also, students learn applied Information and Communications Technology, Mathematics, and Learning Skills.
Applicants with an international secondary school leaving qualifications who have studied in English (see Admissions and Entry requirements) and those who can provide evidence of English Language skills such as a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 may be considered for exemption the predental foundation year. Occasionally, students with advanced standing from other institutions may be considered eligible for transfer to ODC, subject to challenging and passing the relevant ODC professional examinations. Please contact the Student Affairs Registry for fees, eligibility, and further information.
One of the most fundamental and integral aspects of undergraduate dental education is the clinical element. Dental students need to acquire good clinical skills during their undergraduate learning in the BDS Degree program. ODC has constructed a brand new contemporary state-of-the-art dental college and hospital. This consists of outpatient dental clinical facilities with multiple dental chairs, X-ray facilities, a Central Sterile Supply Department, and an operating theatre equipped to the highest standards using the latest technology available. The College provides comprehensive general and specialist oral and dental healthcare for both citizens and residents. Patient care is usually undertaken by dental students under the supervision and generally by appointment.
There is a notice board containing relevant information. It is the student's responsibility to make sure that he or she is aware of any information and changes posted on the notice board. Communication with students takes place through Office 365@ODC, and all students are provided with a College e-mail account.
