On the 9th of October, 2013, the State Agrarian University of Moldova celebrated its 80 years of higher agricultural education. It is the unique university in our country that, during this period, has passed through two radical changes in conceptions and mentalities connected with two transitions from a socio-economic and political system to another. During these 80 years since its foundation, SAUM has made an incredibly valuable contribution to society's economic, social, political, and cultural treasure.
SAUM trained more than 50,000 specialists within its faculties, including about 1,000 from 67 countries distinguished by remarkable results in production and research both in our country and abroad. Among the SAUM graduates, we can mention several personalities such as presidents of the country, prime ministers, Parliament members, ambassadors, ministers, members of the Academy of Sciences, writers, etc.
Along with training specialists, SAUM also remarked itself by a core of great scientific importance, achieving national and international notoriety. The results of accomplished scientific research - new plant varieties and hybrids, crossbreeds of animals and poultry, advanced technologies, machinery and equipment, pharmaceutical products, etc. were valorized in many monographs, books, patents, scientific articles and, usually, implemented in production. During its existence, SAUM was also a spiritual center of agriculture. The academic staff developed a broad experience in propagating scientific research and new technologies among farmers.
At present, SAUM is well known both in our country and abroad due to its prestigious academic staff, achieved scientific results, and professional training of competent and competitive specialists. At present, SAUM has over 6,000 undergraduate students, master's degree students, and doctoral degree students trained respectively at 23 specialties, 30 specializations, and 27 scientific specialties; possesses a rich intellectual potential and a significant infrastructure aimed at supporting and ensuring the work of teachers, scientific researchers and social protection. SAUM is the first university in the Republic of Moldova that became a member of the European University Association, the associate member of AUF (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie) and maintains relations of cooperation with universities and research institutes around the world based on more than 50 agreements being open to international cooperation.
In the next years, we firmly believe that the State Agrarian University of Moldova will continue to distinguish itself by critical scientific achievements and their implementation in production and by high levels of education, thus contributing to the modernization of agriculture and development rural areas in the Republic of Moldova.
