The International University of Kagoshima

The International University of Kagoshima was founded in 1932 by Keisuke Tsumagari as the first higher education institution for commerce and economics in Kagoshima. IUK's motto is "Student First," which means we put the student first. Students are our number one priority. We want to prioritize what we do for incoming students entering IUK, students whose eyes are shining and hearts are full of anticipation.

For over 80 years, keen and eager students have acquired an international way of thinking and contributing to the regional community at The International University of Kagoshima (IUK). Originally named Kagoshima Commerce College, IUK was founded in 1932. It was the first institution of higher education for commerce and economics in Kyushu. The university faculties, departments, teachers, and curriculum have developed in step with the times. Today, IUK consists of three robust and active faculties: Economics, Social Welfare, and Intercultural Studies.

Almost 40,000 alumni live and work in Kagoshima, all over Japan and overseas. These graduates work in a wide range of companies. Places that could be our jobseeking students' places of employment too. All our students need to plan their career path during their student life. Alumni can lead our students and assist IUK to focus on practical classes such as career design, internship, seminar, and guidance counseling. These classes can enrich the working power of our students.

IUK promotes systematic study based on the concept of encouraging student ability by developing employment abilities via these general and special education milestones:

• Career design
• Fieldwork
• Seminars (Graduation thesis studies).

This framework assists our students in becoming competent members of society.

Significant progress has been made in transportation and information networks; the distance between the local region and the world has been shortened. Because many international students enter IUK overseas, our experienced teachers enable them to quickly learn the necessary skills they need to deal with international society. Our students can observe the world from various points of view. On the other hand, we still need to seek ways to develop and build local industries. Our teachers need to stay abreast of new developments to train the next generation of young people.

A lovely opportunity awaiting our students at IUK is fruitful student life. We have a comprehensive campus that is full of nature. There are thousands of books and many relaxing spaces to read in our library. Students can enjoy talking in our restaurants and communication spaces. They can collaborate with classmates in various clubs. Our students can have an enjoyable campus life at IUK for the next 80 years.

IUK offers "Warm-up study," which is a pre-study program aiming to help students who have passed the Admission Office entrance exams and are entranced by recommendations to hit the ground running by the time they start classes. The warm-up study enables students to spend a fruitful time before the entrance ceremony and improves their essential academic ability for studying at university.
