We are located in Niigata's Kenoh region, an area with rich natural resources. It is a one-hour drive from Niigata-city, the largest municipality in the western part of Japan on the Sea of Japan. Since opening our doors in 1994 in response to residents' strong requests, we have grown to become a regional university with global reach, boasting a culturally diverse and well-rounded student body that contributes to the community, the country, and the world. We are dedicated to preparing students for their future careers through structured curriculum design and strong relationships with the local community, industry, and the professions through a wide variety of partnerships and projects. The Niigata University of Management, founded in 1994 in central Niigata Prefecture with the support of 18 communities, is an academic institution jointly supported by the public and private sectors.
The university's mission is to educate individuals who can contribute to the local community, and to that end, we are making improvements to our academic programs. Since last year the university has entered into new partnerships with financial institutions. Such relationships offer students practical experience solving real-world problems and conducting research into a sales promotion, product development, and marketing. Working in tandem, university instructors and local business operators mentor students, who benefit from the knowledge imparted and are thereby prepared to offer solutions themselves. This, then, is our program of practical education. Also, Niigata University of Management implemented the Carrier Challenge Program (CCP) this year. CCP is a mentoring scheme whereby students receive individualized guidance from matriculation to graduation. Utilizing the Carrier Challenge Sheet (CCS), a kind of road map charting students' educational journey towards realizing future dreams and goals, individual students and their teacher-mentor can manage the process effectively.
Moreover, the expansion of active and collaborative learning is proceeding. This education model, and embodied by the Carrier Challenge Program, develops students to become human resources assets. We offer a range of university facilities to provide an ideal educational environment for all NUM students and support our university's teaching and service mission's evolving needs. The International Center is home to our vibrant and diverse community of international students. The center helps all non-Japanese students make their life at our university fun and memorable. Our well-stocked, state-of-the-art library offers NUM students various resources to help in their research and course work. Our modern fitness center is equipped with the latest exercise machines to maintain students' maximum health and wellness. Computing facilities in computer labs, the university library, and the Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) room are available to all NUM students.
