As the economy grew in the 1970s, there was an increasing demand for doctors. In particular, sending doctors to areas where there were none was an important goal for the government. Therefore, the government established a plan to set up 34 new medical universities, including 17 public, 16 private, and one university medical college. Kanazawa Medical University was set up in Uchinada, near Kanazawa City, in June 1972, as the first private medical university on the Sea of Japan side of the country. Kanazawa City is an academic city with a long history and tradition of medical education, which started in the feudal era.
Since the university's establishment, we have been committed to the development of good doctors with high ethical standards and compassion. This approach starts with Albert Schweitzer's idea of Ehrfurcht vor dem Leben (respect for life), and the university crest bears this motto in Latin, Reverentia Vitae.
