Gunma Prefectural College of Health Sciences opened in April 2005 through a reorganization of the Gunma Prefectural Medical Junior College with high hopes that it would “achieve the dream of a healthy lifestyle” for the residents of Gunma Prefecture. The school aims to foster nurses, public health nurses, and radiology technicians who will serve as health and medical care professionals capable of maintaining and improving the residents of Gunma Prefecture and the people who live in different regions throughout their lives. As such, it established graduate school master’s courses in April 2009.
The College of Health Sciences cultivates health and medical care professionals furnished with well-rounded characters and advanced knowledge and skills who respect human dignity, consider health and medical care from various aspects, and make decisions and act independently. Also, it contributes to further improving the health, medical care, and welfare environments for prefectural residents by having the research results contribute to the local community.
Gunma Prefectural College of Health Sciences fosters nursing personnel and radiology technicians as health and medical care professionals who strive to provide medical practices that are grounded in scientific evidence-based on advanced, systematized, and specialized knowledge and techniques while preserving the human dignity of the patients, as well as work always to achieve optimal health conditions. It also produces research results that can be used in the future within Gunma Prefecture and internationally. What is more, the college takes part in the creation, development, and dissemination of evidence-based practice (EBP) of the highest caliber within Japan. It lays a foundation of human resources that can contribute to technological innovations in health, medical care, and welfare settings.
The educational objectives of Gunma Prefectural College of Health Sciences are to have its students learn how to contribute to maintaining and raising the level of health of the various people who live in different regions throughout their lifetimes through the lifestyles and cultures of the residents of Gunma Prefecture, where the college is located.
Through this process, it cultivates in them a well-rounded character. It has them undertake their roles within a changing society and deepen their understanding of and interest in the people who live their own lives while coexisting with nature and fostering a distinctive culture,
It also instills in them specialized knowledge and skills that are backed by scientific evidence and excellent faculties for logical judgment.
Our teaching faculty possess both an abundance of practical experience and strong research capabilities. In line with our “next generation-oriented curriculum,” which aims to educate every one of our students so that they are capable of adapting to changes in society, our teaching faculty provide instruction that consolidates a scientific basis for nursing and radiological technology studies to support the systematic study of specialized knowledge and skills.
What is more, the school offers specialized foundational courses that underpin scholarship in these fields and standard courses that cultivate the ability to work together as a team, which is indispensable for the health and medical services that contribute to society. Thus the school provides an education that is consistent with the real world in which there is no divergence between theory and practice.
Moreover, regarding liberal arts education, the school offers academic foundational education courses with unique individual character. It prepares every one of our students to set up plans for taking courses following their intellectual pursuits or academic interests as independent scholars.
One goal that we aim for about our college students is that you all can think and make decisions with a sense of autonomy. Until yesterday, you were taught the basic knowledge for getting by in life, whereas now in college, you have become students who will learn independently. You are students who learn by thinking on your own.
