The Eberswalde campus is just 60 km from the hustle and bustle of the German capital, Berlin. With its 17 degree programs, the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde has a unique profile focusing on sustainable economics.
The university in Eberswalde's combination of subjects about the rural environment and close cooperation with regional and international research and business partners is unique in Germany.
The Eberswalde campus has been committed to sustainable research and teaching for over 180 years: The University of Applied Sciences for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (HNEE) was founded in 1830 as the Forestry Academy. Since the traditional forestry and timber research campus near Berlin reopened its doors in 1992, the university has focused on forward-looking industries and critical sectors such as renewable energy, regional management, sustainable tourism, conservation, forestry, organic farming, adaptation to climate change or sustainable economics. The Utopia Internet portal pronounced HNE Eberswalde Germany's greenest university in 2009. In 2010 and 2017, the university won the European EMAS Award for its exemplary environmental management.
All of the degree programs are dedicated to sustainable management. That includes incorporating the local region. Many seminars, projects, and excursions are held in cooperation with renowned partners from the business world. That ensures that students receive insights into potential professions. The campus's location in Eberswalde is also rooted in a thriving network of science, business, administration, and politics in the region.
In addition to the successful students and lecturers, the University of Applied Sciences for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (FH) is known for its incredibly successful research. As one of Germany's strongest research universities, we work with numerous regional and international partners – a network we expanded for the long-term in recent years.
The University of Applied Sciences in Eberswalde considers itself a democratic and cosmopolitan university. We guarantee the constitutionally anchored freedom of science, research, and teaching, and we uphold the multiplicity of opinions and methods within the framework of the constitution. We are dedicated to the goal of a need-based education oriented towards the future at the forefront of theory and practice while paying attention to economic sustainability principles.
Based on a democratic and just state, the university stands for cultural tolerance, solidarity, and science and technology's social responsibility. Our mission to fulfill the tasks of education and maintain applied research is based upon the demands of science and society's needs. Through the creative and critical realization of this mission, we contribute to economic, technical, social, and cultural progress and the future of the individual and society as a whole.
The university's innovative developmental potential arises from its integration of local academic traditions into the modern development of science. In the cooperation of the faculties, we see an essential creative means to develop the university. Its interdisciplinary character is a central guideline of its activities.
We implement the principle of global responsibility in local activities using application-related research in cooperation with partners in business, politics, administration, science, and ever-growing exchange programs and cooperation with foreign universities and institutions. To this, we add an awareness of our political responsibility to the community. Teaching, research, and applications are human activities undertaken for humans. Personal development, interdisciplinary openness, collegial cooperation, awareness of one's responsibility, and the ability to communicate, judge, and be critical are indispensable. The university's internal composition and culture need to observe the genders' equal rights and involve students and staff members in the decision-making processes and the transparency of administrational activities.
