Benefit from our dedication and expertise! HMKW University of Applied Sciences for Media, Communication, and Management were founded by an experienced Higher Education professionals team in 2008. HMKW is a private, state-approved university with institutional accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities. All of its degree programs are additionally accredited by FIBAA (an international agency for quality assurance in higher education). HMKW is active at three locations across Germany: Berlin, Cologne, and Frankfurt (Main).
Our professors and lecturers will support you active during your studies and help set you off into a successful career. Your success is of great importance to us. Our degree programs are demanding but always rewarding.
The greatest challenge when leaving university and entering the job market is the lack of practical experience. At HMKW, we emphasize work experience and practical experience to prepare graduates for successful careers. In our teaching, we combine a solid academic education with various real-life projects. We cooperate with various institutions and business partners to complement the academic curriculum with real tasks and projects. Regular project weeks with renowned partners such as Sony, Deutsche Welle, or ZDF are part of this strategy. Work by our students can be seen online, on TV, and heard on the radio.
Our lectures will provide you with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. When graduating from HMKW, you will have gained a broad range of competencies, giving you a definite advantage in the job market.
Our classic Bachelor's degree programs can be completed in six semesters. Alternatively, you can choose a cooperative BA-study program (Duales Studium), which will take eight semesters to complete. This mode of study includes both an apprenticeship and a university degree. In either case, you will be proud of your hard work and success. Our Master's programs taught in English at our Berlin campus continue the successful approach and high standards of our undergraduate degrees. Full-time, they can be completed in four semesters, part-time in six semesters.
HMKW takes part in ERASMUS programs and supports student exchanges, and collaborates with students and universities in Europe and worldwide. Our network of partner universities is continually expanding.
The self-perception of the HMKW is based on humanistic-democratic values, such as openness and tolerance. Therefore, we proactively support corresponding international conventions and statutory requirements: HMKW promotes equal opportunity for participation of all people in an inclusive and unified community for learning and working. We actively counteract discrimination based on sex, age, ethnicity, religion /creed, sexual identity, or physical disability.
This claim does not just require an adequate response to discrimination, exclusion, and inequality. Instead, affirmative action specifically directed against inequality is necessary, i.e., preventive and corrective measures on the levels of structure, organization, and personal communication.
These measures can be grouped into two categories, which express two complementary strategies for the implementation of the principle of equality:
- Diversity management: promotion of interculturality, tolerant language, gender mainstreaming, inclusion
- Anti-discrimination: compliance with the equal opportunities law, compensation of disadvantage, accessibility
The development and implementation of anti-discriminatory measures are led and organized by our women's and equal opportunity representatives.
In case of severe disadvantage and impairment, compensation for such disadvantages can and should be granted for examinations and, if necessary, for the study's organization. The nature and extent of the compensatory measures must be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Accessibility information can be found on the web pages of our locations.
The HMKW Students' Union AStA (short for "Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss") acts as an elected student representation, supporting HMKW students' interests. The Students' Union also organizes events for students, from BBQs to game nights and parties.
