Quality, practical application, and innovation are the major factors that have influenced our development. We place particular importance on an international approach and attitude. But we feel it is just as crucial that the students at our three campuses in Hildesheim, Holzminden, and Göttingen are closely linked to local networks. Co-operative projects establish early contacts with prospective employers.
We intend to support refugees in starting or continuing their academic education. For this purpose, the project "HAWK open" offers counseling for asylum seekers in all matters related to studies at the HAWK. Also, HAWK open supports becoming involved in the university, for example, by offering opportunities for language learning and opening courses to guest students. The goal of the project is to integrate interested persons in regular study courses.
We offer 20 Bachelor and 14 Master courses in six faculties and are currently significantly expanding our interdisciplinary approach.
Approximately 5700 students are currently enrolled at HAWK. One hundred seventy-six professors and many more assistant lecturers are working for them here. We like to take good care of our students.
HAWK is a certified family-friendly university with model day-care services. Our goal is to provide for barrier-free studies, and we bring generations together.
The Faculty of Architecture, Engineering, and Conservation at the HAWK in Hildesheim, with approximately 600 students in the Bachelor and Master study programs for architecture, civil engineering, wood engineering, conservation, and restorations, is the only Faculty of this type at a university of applied sciences and arts in southern Lower Saxony. The Faculty looks back on a long tradition of combining the practical application with research and is closely linked to the region's construction industry.
Studies focus on practical project work involving students of all three different building disciplines. In addition to designing their profiles, which can be done by taking on an area of specialization starting in the third semester, students practice and hone their skills in planning and methodology, teamwork, and working independently based on interdisciplinary co-operation.
Manageable course sizes and intensive supervision and support in small learning groups enable students to pursue their studies effectively and with purpose. Studying in the Faculty of Architecture, Engineering and Conservation mean close contact with professors and employees, advising and supporting mentors and tutors.
In the first semester, all the students attend the courses that communicate the essential contents and required qualifications. Starting in the second semester, students can begin to design their study profiles by choosing specific competence fields individually. In semesters 2 to 5, students focus on interdisciplinary project work and consolidation and deepening of skills by selecting from an extensive range of elective modules. Additional practical training and study abroad can be completed in an "out-of-college" module.
Studying Design in Hildesheim has a long tradition. The foundation for today's Faculty of Design was already laid in 1831. The Faculty's current study program in modular form is a two-stage study system with a Bachelor's degree and a consecutive Master's degree that qualify graduates to work in this field.
With its broad spectrum of eight competence fields, which complement and are also linked with one another, the artistic-scientific Bachelor program in Design forms an interdisciplinary study program unique in its diversity and its very well-equipped workshops. The competence fields are Advertising Design, Corporate Identity/Corporate Design, Colour Design, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Interior Design/Interior Architecture, Lighting Design, Metal Design, and Product Design.
The six-semester Bachelor's study program makes it possible for students to either specialize in one particular field traditionally or to combine several different fields in a completely new way. The study course plans for the individual fields of competence are by no means mandatory but have instead been designed to serve as a guideline for them. This allows students to collaborate on an interdisciplinary basis and to pursue their interests, which can, in turn, lead to entirely new combinations of the areas of competence and have an innovative effect on the course contents.
The artistic-scientific Master's study program is four semesters in length. It is designed to qualify graduates for leadership positions in complex, sophisticated design teams in design teams, professional freelancing, or businesses. The main emphasis is placed on developing the ability to think strategically, promote integrative Design, and prepare for team-oriented leadership.
Following the Bachelor's study program, which is primarily oriented towards the different fields of competence, the Master's program requires students to deal in greater detail with strategic planning, integrative design processes, and leadership tasks on an interdisciplinary level. Thus, the Faculty consistently follows the approach of training responsible designers who are highly competent in their chosen fields, work on interdisciplinary levels, and exhibit team spirit, personal accountability, and autonomy.
The Faculty of Design maintains very successful partnerships with many universities in Europe, Australia, and the USA. These contacts are carefully cultivated and regularly expanded. Many collaborative projects, some of which have lasted for many years, with companies and institutions, not only from this region, contribute to the study program's vitality and practical relevance.
HAWK Fakulty N offers educational courses for engineers with exceedingly good international career opportunities. For that purpose, we cooperate closely with our partners in industrial companies and research establishments. Many of our mostly medium-sized partner companies operate internationally known in the scope of measurement technology, laser technology, and optical sciences. Our partners support us efficiently by providing work placement opportunities to a complete sandwich course between university and career.
Many research and development projects in our scientific laboratories offer a rich choice of practical problems to our students to work with.
