INSA Strasbourg is a Grande École – an engineering and architecture school. The Strasbourg school, whose origins go back to 1875, joined the INSA group in 2003. In 2016 this was a grouping of seven national institutes of applied science: Lyon, Rennes, Rouen Normandie, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Centre Val de Loire, and Euro-Méditerranée in Morocco. INSA Strasbourg is the only public engineering school in France that trains architects and offers a dual course.
INSA Strasbourg belongs to the INSA Group, which is a grouping of six national institutes of applied science (Lyon, Rennes, Rouen, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Centre Val de Loire), an International INSA (INSA Euro-Méditerranée) and 7 partner schools.
They make up the largest network of engineering schools in France, and every year, they train over 10% of French engineers. The group’s dynamism and reputation are based on the quality of its multi-disciplinary teaching combined with the breadth and depth of its interactions with research.
United by a set of shared values and a joint entry system, the INSAs cooperate, collaborate and exchange practices and knowledge.
INSA Strasbourg applies a proactive policy of internationalizing its courses, for example, requiring that all its students spend at least three months abroad. A condition they must meet to obtain their diploma, this international mobility offers students an unforgettable experience, one that enriches them from the professional, linguistic, and personal points of view.
This international policy applies to all specializations. The school’s management gives careful consideration to its international strategy, involving all the school stakeholders, and taking account of the geographical priorities enshrined in regional policy by the local authorities and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

35% of students at INSA Strasbourg receive student grants, and the school has a complimentary bursary scheme that can help students in financial difficulties complete their studies.
Students who have passed their first year are offered the chance to participate in an elective buddy tutoring scheme. The aim is to support first-year students who need it by tutoring them to improve their study methods and learning.
INSA Strasbourg wishes to promote the careers of female engineers and architects. Support is available (in the form of bursaries, awareness-raising, and communication campaigns) to raise the number of female students, which currently stands at 35%. Being open to the wider world is one of INSA Strasbourg’s core values: every year, 250 students go abroad to study, and 350 undertake an internship thanks to 19 double degree courses, 60 bilateral agreements, and numerous contacts with companies and laboratories abroad.
