Beis Yaakov Primary School is a larger than average-sized primary school catering for girls from Jewish Orthodox backgrounds. Few girls live near the school and they attend from a wide area of North London. In the early years, children attend the two Nursery and three Reception classes on a full-time basis. Most pupils are from White British backgrounds, although about 15% are of other White European and Israeli heritage. The proportion who speak English as an additional language is similar to the national picture. Beis Yaakov is a voluntary aided school that teaches Jewish Studies and a secular curriculum for part of each day. The school meets the current government floor standard which sets the minimum expectation for pupils’ attainment and progress. Beis Yaakov is an Orthodox Jewish school. It aligned with the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations of the UK. It derives the ethos and values from the timeless values and teachings of the Torah, as transmitted through Orthodox Jewish tradition. It's Va’ad Hachinuch (Rabbinic board) that interprets and rules on all matters relating to the applicability of these values and teachings, and the School Governing Body and senior leadership team follow the directions of the Va’ad Hachinuch in all matters. Beis Yaakov Primary School exists to provide girls from the Orthodox Anglo-Jewish Community with a high-quality Orthodox Jewish Education coupled with National Curriculum studies imbued with Torah values enabling all girls to take their place in and contribute to society. Beis Yaakov to develop the pupils to become a credit to unadulterated orthodoxy and to lay the foundations for their role as mothers of the next generation. To achieve this aim, Beis Yaakov will seek to Instil a love and respect for Torah and Mitzvos which will motivate its pupils to improve their knowledge and practical application of our Torah. It Refines the inter-personal relationship with other people so that our pupils will ה"בע contribute to the community and personify with integrity the ethics and values of Torah. It Maintains a high standard in Torah and secular education. This ethos must be communicated to our pupils by all our staff whenever possible and must permeate every activity in the school. Teachers must remember that they serve as role models so that by their dignity and modesty they will generate a desire to emulate their conduct. Beis Yaakov Primary School exists to serve the Orthodox Jewish community by offering a broad and balanced Jewish and secular education, rooted in an ethos of Torah values, to girls between the ages of 3 and 11. The policy should be viewed in the context of the appropriate school Aims, which are to provide opportunities and role models which will encourage social, moral, cultural, and spiritual qualities which reflect the teachings of the Torah and provide access to the curriculum for all pupils, within a differentiated program, and using modern technology where possible. To identify and provide for the natural differing abilities and needs of each child. To value all members of the school community, adults and children alike, for themselves, so that everyone has an opportunity to reach their full potential while acknowledging what is realistic to expect of everyone.
