  1. What makes Woodbridge School such a unique place? Well, above all else, it is an exceptionally happy school. When you visit, We are sure you will be struck by the warmth and sense of community. But it is much more than a kind and nurturing place – there is also a real sense of purpose. We prepare our pupils with the skills and attributes that will enable them to thrive in an ever more competitive world. This means excellent academic achievement is just part of an outstanding educational experience. We place equal importance on what happens inside and outside the classroom, deliver an authentic, holistic education that provides a foundation for life. Our sporting and performing arts facilities are amongst the very best in the country and what the pupils achieve is truly remarkable. A Woodbridgian develops in creativity, empathy, the ability to work independently and work with others. The emphasis of the School is very much on developing the self-confidence to overcome any challenge, ensuring they emerge happy, resilient well-balanced young men and women. Woodbridge is an exceptional school, a wonderful place to learn and to become the very best you can be. We look forward to welcoming you to our school very soon. We aim to: Woodbridge School is a community built on Christian values. We are a community in which the quality of relationships is given the highest priority. Our pupils, parents, and staff work together for the benefit of each other and the wider community. We help our pupils develop into happy, confident, caring, resilient young men and women. Our high-quality ‘Learning@Woodbridge’ enables all pupils to enjoy their studies and become independent, confident learners able to exceed their academic potential. Every Woodbridgian is known and valued. We provide individual, personal guidance and support to help our pupils thrive, negotiate risk and make good life choices. We provide an exceptional, wide range of extra-curricular activities to help pupils find and develop their talents. We want pupils to love school, be in their element, and know their self-worth. We aim for all pupils to develop the essential skills, attributes, and mindset that will enable them to pursue their aspirations and ambitions beyond Woodbridge. The curriculum at Woodbridge is a traditional academic curriculum, combining breadth with a strong focus on the major academic disciplines. We have a unique and innovative approach to how we teach called Learning@Woodbridge. This enables every pupil to not only acquire essential knowledge but also be empowered to know how to learn better and become more independent. It aims to provide each pupil with the essential intellectual skills needed for later study, including the ability to think critically and logically, whilst still capturing the imagination and allowing for a diversity of interests. All academic subjects are important and help to develop different areas of the brain, for example, English develops the ability to use language precisely and creatively, whilst history and social sciences require that pupils can research and then construct clear, logical arguments based on their findings. In the creative arts, pupils are given extensive opportunities to create their direction. STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) are exceptionally strong at Woodbridge, these subjects are important as they will allow pupils to fully embrace the ongoing technological revolution. Art also features strongly, with lessons that inspire pupils to think originally and creatively. The strong encouragement to learn languages is reflected in the availability of French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese. The FitzGerald Society, our Junior Oxbridge Programme, is aimed at high-fliers in Years 10-11 with a zest for knowledge and exploration. The program includes a mixture of major events and subsidiary activities. Big events include a moot (mock law trial), where pupils will study evidence, create their cases, and bring them to court. Trips include the Bawdsey Radar exhibition or Bletchley Park. We shall also be taking part in the Alan Turing Cryptography Competition (run by Manchester University). Subsidiary activities will include exploring logic problems set by GCHQ. A learning support scheme helps pupils across the academic spectrum – from those who are highly gifted to those who need extra assistance in class. Our well-proven tutor system identifies each pupil’s aptitudes and abilities, encouraging them to make the most of the opportunities offered. View full school
  2. Woodbridge High School is a thriving, ethnically diverse, successful comprehensive secondary school that serves its local community in the heart of Woodford. The school is a ten-form entry school with 300 students each year. The sixth form continues to prosper with the majority of our students staying on after year 11. The teaching staff are all specialists in their separate areas and permanently contracted to the school. Year on year the school attracts a high number of first-choice applications. The school has a diverse curriculum that meets the needs of all the students and provides them with a pathway towards their chosen careers. Many students move on to universities with a good number attending Russell Group institutions. The school is a happy, flourishing, and mutually respectful place of learning. The most recent Ofsted report confirms that we continue to be a good school. It mentions many areas where we have made further gains since our last inspection. The report states that: “The Leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school”, “pupils’ outcomes are improving”, enrichment activities are well organized and pay attention to pupils’ needs”, “progress in the sixth form was strong” and “the school community is a harmonious environment”. Students, parents, the governing body, and staff have very good reason to reflect happily on our achievements. Students at Woodbridge benefit from first-class facilities including a fitness center, dance studio, artificial grass pitch, outdoor basketball nets and table-tennis tables, refurbished sports hall, and performance theatre. The Core Purpose of Woodbridge High School is to create an inclusive community of successful learners. This is achieved through the following aims: To give each individual the opportunity to achieve the maximum of his/her ability and to develop lively, enquiring, and reflective minds. To give meaning and enjoyment to the students’ present learning experience and to encourage self-motivation, enterprise, and a commitment to lifelong learning. To introduce students to aspects of human knowledge and experience by providing a balanced and relevant curriculum. To provide equal opportunities for development for all members of the school community. To prepare students to be responsible citizens within the community and to give them the flexibility and skills to meet the demands of a rapidly changing society. To uphold British values as set out by the government and incorporate these in all aspects of our daily life. To enable students to establish social and personal relationships based on respect, understanding, and co-operation. The school aims to provide a broad, balanced, relevant, differentiated, and inclusive curriculum for all students through a formal program of lessons and a full range of extra-curricular activities. The taught curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum programs of study at Key Stages 3 and 4 and is timetabled using a 50-period two-week cycle. Ofsted (2012) described our curriculum as providing “a broad, balanced, rich experience for students, leading to worthwhile qualifications”. At Woodbridge High School, our SMSC (spiritual, moral, social, and cultural) program is used to reinforce those values which make our school community into one which is both tolerant and respectful. We have a full assembly program that deals with aspects of students’ SMSC development. Life Studies lessons are used to further embed the teaching of British Values as well as cover important curriculum areas which prepare students for the modern world. View full school
