At Williston, we have laid a foundation that calls for respectful communication, deliberate choices that promote diversity and inclusion both in admissions and in hiring, and frequent activities that work toward equity in the school setting and beyond, such as Community Identity Discussions, an annual Why Not Speak Day, and guest speakers that highlight social justice. Our diversity and inclusion work is also tied to our curriculum, where we endeavor to include multiple perspectives in all disciplines. We believe a diverse and inclusive community helps prepare students for success as they move into college and onto their professional lives. In the 21st century, preparing for college success and beyond means learning how to take full advantage of available technology. Our Curricular Technology Program (CTP) teaches students how to use technology thoughtfully to communicate, solve problems, and think critically. With the Microsoft Surface Pro as the centerpiece, the CTP encompasses software, such as the note-taking program OneNote Veracross, the school’s learning management system, and training, support, and innovation from our Academic Technology Team. Our rigorous academic environment offers a balance of structure and freedom, designed to help students develop excellent study skills, writing, and critical thinking, along with an ambitious intellectual curiosity. Our class sizes are small (average size of 12), and our course selection is large (155 courses with 49 designated as Honors or APs)—so you can think big! Williston’s college search process is highly personalized. Beginning early in your junior year, you will frequently meet with your counselor to talk about your goals, values, ideals, and interests. Classroom sessions and workshops provide you and your family with crucial information at the appropriate time. As we teach you about college admissions, we also foster self-awareness and independent thinking so that you can effectively determine which colleges are uniquely suited to you. At Williston, we take the arts seriously. Our facilities are state-of-the-art, and our faculty members are practicing musicians, actors, and visual artists who bring their talents and experience to their classrooms and studios. All Williston students take at least three trimesters of art classes.
