About Me

  1. Roberts Wesleyan College is a vibrant private institution in Rochester, NY. Our nearly 2,000 students include residential and commuter undergraduates, online scholars, and adult and graduate students. We provide an outstanding education in which students can cultivate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will help them advance and succeed, mentor others, and work to become the kind of leaders who inspire colleagues. Our wide variety of degrees and programs include the arts, sciences, and professions. We're a group of scholars, dedicated to service and spiritual formation. We're a place students can wrestle with hard questions and still feel safe. We're a foundation for your career. We're the catalyst to your next job. Even more than all of that, we're your next home. Whether it be for four years, two years, or 16 months, we'll be your family. Welcome to Roberts. As a community of learners committed to historic Christianity, Roberts Wesleyan College seeks to prepare thoughtful, spiritually mature, service-oriented people who will help transform society. At Roberts, we believe the best education addresses the person in their entirety - as a physical, psychological, social, rational, and spiritual being. Roberts's education presupposes both the complexity of the world and the diversity of human nature. It is one in which the students investigate the aesthetic, historical, philosophic, scientific, and professional disciplines. No one method of inquiry or verification is regarded as the only route to knowledge, nor does one set of skills provide sufficiently for a life of service and achievement. Thanks to a rich Christian heritage and a dedication to "education for character," Roberts remains committed to integrating a Christian worldview and learning into everyday life and work. Roberts students are active participants in the learning community of the College. We believe that Roberts's education is an investment in your future. Because we have confidence in the transformative experience students have here, we offer many grants and scholarships to afford College. We want to make private College accessible and affordable for families. View full university
  2. As an evangelical Christian university of The Wesleyan Church, Oklahoma Wesleyan University models a way of thought, a way of life, and faith. It is a place of serious study, honest questions, and critical engagement, all in the context of a liberal arts community that honors the Primacy of Jesus Christ, the Priority of Scripture, the Pursuit of Truth, and the Practice of Wisdom. Oklahoma Wesleyan University's history began in 1905 with Rocky Mountain Missionary & Evangelistic School. In 1910, its name was changed to Colorado Springs Bible College. In 1909, Miltonvale Wesleyan College began in Kansas, and, in 1917, Pasadena Bible Training School opened in California. The University's objective has expanded, but the mission has always been to prepare individuals to reach out and touch the world for Christ. Thousands of alumni have made a difference globally. OKWU's vision and mandate remain steadfast. With the Lord's leadership, President Dunn—as well as the university leadership, faculty, staff, students, partners, and alumni—can rest assured that OKWU will continue to live out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Welcome to Oklahoma Wesleyan University! We are a university that believes in and practices the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. Without Him, we can do nothing. With Him, all things are possible! The transformations of lives are core to all that Oklahoma Wesleyan University is and does. Being an orthodox Christian, liberal arts university, we believe God wants to change the whole person by His grace and truth in order for His disciples to change the whole world for the good of His Kingdom. This is a place that prioritizes the whole person's whole development spiritually, academically, emotionally, and physically, including the worldview a person looks upon others and the culture God has called us to witness to through and with His love. We honor the Primacy of Jesus Christ, the Priority of Scripture, the Pursuit of Truth, and the Practice of Wisdom for the whole person so the Kingdom of Jesus Christ can impact the whole world. As you consider Oklahoma Wesleyan University as your choice to develop who it is that God has called you to be and what He has wired you to do in life, We are confident in our mission, our people, our grace-giving, our truth-telling, and our Christian worldview culture. We desire to be so full of Jesus Christ that the grace and truth of Jesus Christ ooze out of all we are and do through Oklahoma Wesleyan University. View full university

Thank you for your role in sustaining our legacy. We must not let resources impede the transformational effect of an OWU education. Whether it is need-based, merit-based, or aid for a returning student, scholarships can be the deciding factor in bringing students to OWU and ensuring they can complete their degree. Our historic campus has been graced with several impressive new buildings and seen some of our most iconic spaces given new life and purpose thanks to significant philanthropic support. We remain committed to preserving our beautiful campus and enhancing our high-tech learning spaces from technology to program funding, to faculty and staff training and salaries; annual gifts touch each part of OWU, every day. Like you, we love OWU. The Connect Today, Create Tomorrow campaign will strengthen our great University through unprecedented support, and we are proud to be the co-chairs. We urge you to join us in giving as generously as you can to the areas you care about most. Your support will connect current and future generations of Ohio Wesleyan students to opportunities that will create a better world. For more than 175 years, Ohio Wesleyan has remained committed to its founding principles, including providing an education conducted on the most liberal principles, accessible to all, designed for the benefit of citizens in general. The generosity and faith in these aims, shown by donors thus far in our Connect Today's leadership phase, Create Tomorrow comprehensive campaign have been remarkable: before the public launch on October 20, 2017, our campaign progress had surpassed $139 million. The incredible support gratifies us. Our professors respond to the needs of today's students by creating new majors that connect a traditional liberal arts education with a global perspective and pre-professional preparation. We look to secure support for their continued innovation. Through The OWU Connection and planned Career Connections Center, we will grow our emphasis on internships and practical, real-world experiences, while further engaging alumni in these efforts. We will continue to develop the Travel-Learning Courses that have allowed our students to travel from Alaska to Tanzania and everywhere in between. We seek support for scholarships to allow talented students to take advantage of these programs. Our historic campus has been graced with several impressive new buildings and seen some of our most iconic spaces given new life and purpose, thanks to significant philanthropic support. Our comprehensive campaign also includes annual giving goals, which support our daily operations from salaries to sidewalks. At OWU, the enduring values of a liberal arts education continue to prepare graduates for leadership and service lives in every segment of our society. We are renewing our commitment to our founding principles in these changing times as we chart a bold path forward. Since its founding, Ohio Wesleyan has maintained its connection with the Methodist (now United Methodist) Church, offering a quality of scholarship, leadership, and service that has enriched both Church and society. Ohio Wesleyan's charter provided that "the University is forever to be conducted on the most liberal principles, accessible to all religious denominations, and designed for the benefit of our citizens in general." In this heritage's spirit, the University defines itself as a community of teachers and students devoted to the free pursuit of truth. It attempts to develop in its students' qualities of intellect and character that will be useful no matter what they choose to do later. The transmission, extension, and discovery of knowledge are central to the liberal arts tradition. While encouraging professional scholarship and feeling justifiably proud of its faculty and graduates who enjoy national or international reputations in their fields, the University has its preeminent purpose of being a quality institution for teaching and learning. Because effective teaching is of the highest importance, faculty members regularly are reviewed and evaluated for excellence in teaching. Make the most of every opportunity. Join the faculty on planned study-travel courses to places like China, Greece, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, The Netherlands, and South Korea! One of the best things about Wesleyan is that we are a community within a community. Almost everything that a student needs can be found right here on campus. You can count on every kind of support, from academic to technical to medical to social. College faculty and staff are trained and available to help students with most of the support services needed. So, don't be afraid to ask for help. It's all right here! With many liberal arts colleges facing pressure to demonstrate that they adequately prepare students for the job market, we have risen above the competition to ensure superior career preparation & professional development for all students. Liberal arts colleges teach students how to think for themselves, learn, and see things as a whole. A liberal arts education provides a student with general knowledge of many different subjects to gain a better working knowledge of the world, rather than focusing on and specializing in one specific area. This type of education can develop the intellectual ability and prepare students for many fields in today's workplace. A liberal arts background equips Wesleyan women with a unique perspective that makes them highly competitive for many professional opportunities and quite successful at whatever they choose to do. Society is changing. Our students are changing. The demand for career-based education is on the rise. Rhetoric would lead us to believe that the liberal arts are waning. However, research proves this assumption false. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers' Job Outlook Survey 2016, employers seek traditionally labeled "soft skills" in their hires' resumes. These include what would be considered the hallmarks of a liberal arts education: leadership, teamwork ability, communication skills, and problem-solving, amongst others. It is not until #10 that technical skills make a list. In the same survey, employers were asked what attributes influenced hiring decisions the most. View full university
  7. West Virginia Wesleyan creates a unique learning environment that enables our students to develop the skills, values, relationships, and perspectives that will allow them to obtain employment, enhance their employment, and be leaders throughout their lives. They are well prepared to be successful and respected citizens of a rapidly changing world. The personal attention our students receive has an undeniable impact on their outcomes. West Virginia Wesleyan College challenges its students to a lifelong commitment to developing their intellectual, ethical, spiritual, and leadership potential and setting and upholding excellence standards. Firmly rooted in the liberal arts tradition and closely related to The United Methodist Church, the College is a community of learning based on fundamental principles formed at the intersection of Christian faith and liberal education: intellectual rigor, self-discovery, human dignity, mutual support, social justice, self-discipline, mental and physical wellness, the appreciation of diversity and the natural world, and the judicious use of resources. The College recognizes and affirms its interdependence with the external communities-local, regional, national, and global-and its covenant with the people of West Virginia to share its educational and cultural resources. West Virginia Wesleyan College prepares its students through its curriculum of arts and sciences, preprofessional, professional, graduate studies, and its rich campus life program. As a residential institution of higher education, the College aspires to graduate broadly educated men and women who: Think critically and creatively. Communicate effectively. Act responsibly. Demonstrate their local and world citizenship through service. Wesleyan students have the opportunity to explore any of our 56 undergraduate majors, 38 minors, and four graduate programs. They include focused research within your given field and exploration and study within various departments and courses through our general education program. If you are not sure what you want to study, do not worry! Our faculty and staff are dedicated to helping you find your academic voice, and the family you will build here will give you the chance to find the major that fits your passion. Students may select a minor to complement or support their major program. The selection of an academic minor is optional. In addition to the minors listed below, a student may design a contract minor combining related courses from more than one department. Planned on consultation with two faculty advisors and subject to Curriculum Council approval, such a contract minor should include 9-12 hours in one of the sponsoring departments. It should not overlap courses in the major. Guidelines are available in the Office of the Registrar. WVWC's Preprofessional Programs allow students to tailor their courses and research towards completing further study after graduating. Our students have interned in state government, with sports agencies, telecommunications companies, manufacturers, retail companies, major healthcare organizations, law enforcement – the list goes on. For education majors, your student teaching experience is supplemented by the fact that we have an elementary school right on campus – you will find yourself in an elementary classroom as early as your first year. Opportunities abound for clinical hours, whether for nursing students or athletic trainers. Moreover, for added realistic training, occasionally, our nursing and AT majors have done simulation events where they practice an on-the-field athletic injury from assessment to “emergency department” in our state-of-the-art simulation labs, with local M.D.s providing oversight and recommendations. The great news is that you will find your professors and the Academic and Career Services Center are ready and willing to help you make the necessary connections to find the right experience for you. You may also find that independent research is a great way to set yourself apart. Through our Hughes Grant-in-Aid program, math and science majors may apply for funding to pursue an educational experience not available on campus. Students have traveled to other colleges in the U.S., and abroad they have done research worldwide and here in South Dakota, and they have experienced career-sparking volunteer opportunities. You will graduate from DWU confident in knowing who you are and what you have to contribute to the world. Our job is to clear the path for you—which we do as a university that focuses on helping you discover your unique strengths. We also make sure that 99% of our students receive a generous financial aid package, removing even more potential barriers to your success because the bottom line is that we want you to be successful—a force for good and much-needed change in the world.

  22. On May 14, 1956, the North Carolina Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church met in Goldsboro. It approved a petition from the people of Rocky Mount to locate a college in their community. In early September, the first trustees established temporary headquarters in the Ricks Hotel. One of the first actions of the Board was to name the institution North Carolina Wesleyan College. The State of North Carolina officially chartered the College on October 25, 1956. Capital investments totaling approximately $2 million made possible the construction of the main buildings on the 200-acre site donated by the M.C. Braswell heirs of Rocky Mount. Four years later, 92 students enrolled in the first class at North Carolina Wesleyan College. In 1964, 33 students received their degrees at the College’s first Commencement. Since those early days, nearly 9,000 students have earned bachelor’s degrees in the arts and sciences. Alumni from Rocky Mount, neighboring communities, numerous states, and several foreign countries affirm Wesleyan’s value as an essential resource for higher education in Eastern North Carolina.

Illinois Wesleyan University was founded in 1850 by a diverse group of 30 civic and religious leaders who established "an Institution of learning of Collegiate grade." When a sponsor was needed, the founders gained support from the United Methodist Church, which is how "Wesleyan" was added to the original name, "Illinois University." The University's relationship with the church has evolved over the years. While maintaining its Methodist affiliation, true to its founding roots, Illinois Wesleyan continues to be a diverse and inclusive community, independent in its governance.
