Stockbridge Primary is a City of Edinburgh local authority school. We are a non-denominational school and welcome children of all faiths or none, from ages 3 to 12. We are fortunate in enjoying extensive, flexible facilities in traditional yet modernized buildings. All class areas have interactive whiteboards installed. The main school is housed in a listed Victorian building designed by award-winning architect Rowan Anderson. In addition to the 7 classrooms in the main building, there is a dining room/gym/assembly hall, a Support for Learning base, an Early Years Base, a Middle Years Base, Main School Office, Administration Room, Head Teacher’s Office, Management room, Resource room, Staff Room and Kitchen. A Georgian annex accommodates our Nursery, 2 classrooms, Staff Office, and a General Purpose room used for Drama, Music Cooking, etc. This GP space also houses a school-run Breakfast Club and an independent After School Club. The school grounds include garden areas picnic and seating areas, a sound garden, a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), a trim trail, an adventure trail, a traversing wall as well as tarmac play areas. The school grounds have been developed over the years by staff and parents. Our Nursery outdoor area includes planting beds, a ‘Junk Orchestra’ area, and a permanent climbing frame incorporating a den and slide. This year we have developed our outdoor learning area further by building large sand and willow den area. The staff, pupils, and PSA have also worked very hard by fundraising and making grant applications to improve the main school playground. This year the Eco Warriors Community Group and classes have worked to maintain our ‘edible hedge’ at the front of the school, which is part of a shared project with our partner school in Malawi. We also grow a range of fruits, vegetables, and flowers in our sanctuary garden/raised beds and have participated in the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society Schools Daffodil Competition and Spring Show, gaining a Silver certificate. At Stockbridge Primary our aim is : To inspire and encourage children to be active participants in their learning, be ambitious, and foster self-esteem and resilience. To provide a wide range of teaching and learning opportunities of the highest quality, including developing creative and enterprising approaches. To create a positive, caring environment where children feel safe, happy, and confident and where children, staff, parents, and visitors feel valued and respected. To continue developing our involvement in the wider community and to encourage the community to share in the life of the school. To deliver a broad, well-balanced curriculum where each child is encouraged to fulfill their potential. To develop professionally and build on the strengths we possess as a team to promote lifelong learning for all. To actively promote healthy attitudes and behaviors for the whole school community and care for the emotional and physical wellbeing of individuals within it. To provide equal opportunities for all pupils, recognizing individual needs and celebrating cultural diversity and wider achievement. To promote in each child a responsible attitude towards his/her environment, their learning, and the wider world.
