Our website aims to give you information about what is happening in school and help you support your child throughout their time at the school. At Southwood Primary School we recognize that all pupils are entitled to have access to a broad range of learning experiences that allow them to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills, and attitudes necessary for their self-fulfillment and to enable them to play a full part as responsible citizens in the 21st Century. Our curriculum aims to provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve, irrespective of social background, culture, race, gender, differences in ability, and disabilities. It is our aim at Southwood Primary School Nursery to ensure that every child develops a lively and enquiring mind, feels happy and secure, and fulfills his or her full potential in every aspect of personal development and the Early Years Curriculum. Children are allowed to select and choose activities for themselves whilst our enthusiastic adults give guidance and direction to allow and facilitate learning. The early stages of your child’s school career are carefully monitored and observed, this is then used to inform planning and ensure that all interests are developed as well as being documented through a series of photos and observations which are then put together in your child’s ‘Learning Journey’ to show their successes. We know that our approach to early education gives lasting benefits to all our children and it lays a secure foundation for the rest of their education. Our staff thoroughly enjoy seeing the children grow and watching them become inquisitive and independent learners which is something we hope continues throughout their education. A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her. At Southwood, we believe that every child deserves a fair start in life, with the very best opportunity to succeed. Teaching and Learning are at the heart of everything we do. We aim to ensure that every child has an entitlement to fulfill his/her optimum potential. High-quality teaching that is differentiated and personalized will meet the individual needs of the majority of pupils. Some pupils will need educational provision that is additional to or different from this. At Southwood, we ensure that such provision is made for those who need it. “High-quality teaching, differentiated for individual pupils, is the first step in responding to pupils who have or may have SEN”. Our key partners (staff, governors, parents/carers, and the local community) are committed to inspiring our future generations, so we achieve educational excellence and develop children’s talents and characters so everyone develops a thirst for knowledge and a love of learning, for life, and is proud to be part of our whole school community. We are committed to inclusion, believing that every child has the right to succeed, we take responsibility to ensure that barriers to learning are overcome and that all children succeed in realizing their potential to be the best they can be irrespective of their backgrounds or starting points. If your child attends childcare or learning at another setting or venue, before school or after school, this provider will likely need to be registered with Ofsted. This ensures that the service provided is safe and that the adults working with your children are appropriate for that role. If you need any help, the school is willing to help check the Ofsted status of any provider your child attends. During the past year, the Governing Body has continued to work with the Headteacher to build and embed the leadership structure, particularly increasing middle leadership capacity. We have continued to support him in making staff appointments and developing the middle leadership structure, where we have seen some significant improvements over the past year. This has allowed the school to continue to improve the curriculum and to embed robust processes for assessment in line with the requirements of the new curriculum. The school has continued with a positive and forward-looking culture and continues to drive high standards. Our other key focus has been continuing to capitalize and embed the Primary Alliance for Collaborative Engagement (PACE) Ltd with other local schools. This partnership involves the sharing of expertise in teaching and learning and also brings financial benefits through negotiating contracts as a group of schools. We have continued to monitor and evaluate progress with priorities in the school’s action plan at Governing Body meetings. In doing so, we have considered key pupil data and agreed on ambitious targets. We have also received information from our local authority link advisor relating to local and national priorities and her visits to the school. Within Standards Committee meetings, data on the progress and attainment of groups of pupils, including vulnerable groups, are discussed in detail. We have continued to evaluate targeted interventions and the quality of teaching and learning is continuing to be a strong focus for us. View full school
