  1. Saitama Medical School Was Established In Moroyama In 1972 With Three Precepts As The Founding Objectives: Cultivating Physician with profound affection and understanding of, and serve to live. Cultivating individuals capable of thinking, searching, and dedicating to lifelong self-education. Raising academic traditions of togetherness and between teachers and students. The School's objectives are so aptly expressed above that nothing needs to be added today even after a lapse of over a quarter-century. However, medicine has made rapid advances at an unprecedented pace, and society has also made drastic changes. In the arena of medicine, there is an increasing demand for constructing new doctor-patient relationships due to due recognition of the import of patients' will. Herewith marking a new leap on the opening of the new campus, the Saitama Medical School reaffirms the Founding Objectives for cultivating students toward ideal physicians through the school activities based on the spiritual foundation defined in the Objectives. Lofty Code Of Conduct And Humanity: Doctors have a profound affection and awe for human life, have empathy, and place themselves in patients' positions to perform medical practices with thorough explanations and mutual understandings. Doctors strive consistently to polish the code of conduct and self-educate to build personal qualities with warmth and rich humanity. Medical Science And Practice Up To The International Standard Doctors are always to learn the latest techniques and advances and endeavor to provide confidently medical services of the highest quality required by international standards. Doctors are to know the limit of one's ability, cooperate with others, and practice the best medicine for patients' sake. Doctors are to have the will and quest for solutions in every phase of actual medical practices and endeavor to contribute to medical science and service. Harmony And Cooperation From Societal Perspective Doctors are to guide and support people engaged in various paramedical occupation levels and are to try to develop leadership skills for playing the role of their commander in the medical service. Doctors are to uphold a societal perspective with a sense of responsibility for regional health and medical care ranging from maintenance and improvement of health, through prevention of illnesses through to the patients' return to work upon recovery, to promoting social welfare.
  2. Since Saitama Prefectural University (SPU) opened the School of Health and Social Services in Koshigaya, Saitama, in 1999, it has been positioning itself to contribute to the promotion of social integration and the realization of an inclusive society in the fields of public health, medical care, and social welfare. To achieve this goal, we educate our students to be individuals who can act independently with a critical spirit, not only using their specialized knowledge and skills but also reflecting a well-rounded character, ethical principles, and lessons from our predecessors. Therefore, we emphasize fostering students’ resolution, intelligence, and communication ability to prepare them to face “unanswered questions” or “questions without answers.” At the undergraduate level, the School of Health and Social Services has five departments, including eight divisions that provide a wide variety of specialized courses relating to nursing, rehabilitation, social work, child science, behavioral sciences, laboratory sciences, and oral health sciences. Simultaneously, all students are required to take standard courses categorized in the cluster of liberal arts courses and the cluster of healthcare and social services courses to broaden their horizons and deepen their learning. Among these courses, those relating to interprofessional collaboration represent the educational mission of SPU. For example, in courses such as “Practicum: Human Care” in the first year and “Interprofessional Work Practicum” in the fourth year, our students are grouped into teams consisting of individuals with different majors, and they participate in problem-solving practicums at approximately 160 facilities throughout Saitama Prefecture so that they can gain hands-on experiences in interdisciplinary collaboration. Regarding postgraduate education, a master’s degree program was established in 2010, and a doctoral program in 2015. We emphasize the training of highly-skilled professionals and researchers. We have been disseminating to the rest of the world the results of our primary and clinical studies, our empirical studies, and studies for policy proposals regarding community health and social welfare. SPU also attaches great significance to international contributions and exchanges. Our students and faculty members have provided active humanitarian assistance to victims of overseas disasters and foreign residents in Japan. SPU offers exchange programs with universities in Europe, Australia, and China. Furthermore, SPU functions as a think tank in the practice and establishment of healthcare and social welfare policies. SPU has been contributing to communities in cooperation with the central, prefectural and municipal governments and various NPOs. SPU is also known for providing continuing education to healthcare professionals, supported by our research findings and distinguished faculty who have both academic and practical expertise. We are determined to continue our efforts in promoting interprofessional collaboration and integration in healthcare and social services in cooperation with our highly motivated faculty, researchers, and students to contribute to local communities. We appreciate your continuing support for our activities.

    Saitama University

Welcome to Saitama University, an internationalizing national university. Whether you are a prospective undergraduate or graduate student, a would-be exchange student or professor from an overseas partner university, or an organizational leader seeking to collaborate with a premier research institution, I do hope you enjoy exploring this website to know more about our University and to join us. "Saitama University, All in One Campus at Metropolitan Area Saitama – Embodiment of Diversity, Synergy, and Integration" is the vision of Saitama University (SU). Over the past 68 years since it was established in 1949 as a small university comprising only two schools, SU has grown into a middle-sized national university with five undergraduate schools and three graduate schools in liberal arts, economics, and education, science, and engineering. The University is distinctive in that all the schools are located together on the lush green campus in Saitama, just north of Tokyo. This is very advantageous in many respects, being conducive to research and learning in the integrated fields of humanities and science. SU has been adding to its brightness more and more by pushing forward two functional enhancements. The first is the base reinforcement by extensively enhancing the functions of fundamental/applied researches and education for global human resource cultivation, based on the university mission being the creation and succession of intellect. As a research institution, we established the Strategic Research Division in 2014, consisting of three research areas: Life & Nano-Bio, Green & Environment, and Sensitivity Recognition Support. A new research area of X-ray & optical, infrared astrophysics has just started in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. The second is the self-branding as SU by aggressively taking regional centers' role to activate the metropolitan area around Saitama. In 2016, the Advanced Institute of Innovative Technology was established in SU to promote a concrete utilization of the intellect by the industry-university-government collaboration to provide for the solution to our time concerns. Furthermore, the Career Center SU was organized to positively communicate with the regional community to cultivate talented human resources depending on social needs. Dr. Takaaki Kajita graduated from the Department of Physics, SU, in 1981, has received the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics. During his SU life, he was active in studies and sports, especially in the Japanese art of archery, and encountered various studies, professors, and friends. His free and vigorous four years in the SU campus might have led him to the way to a researcher and to a tidemark of winning the Nobel Prize, and his steady research-style could be closely related to sound SU tradition. SU continues to provide high-quality education, research, and social contribution proudly from now on. Saitama is known for its well-developed industries and cultures, well -balanced urban and natural environment, and convenience. Saitama's city is the place where the Japanese have had a close relationship with foreigners for a long time and respecting and embracing people from other areas. Moreover, the Saitama prefecture is distributing its touristy information via the Facebook sites "Saitama JAPAN Just North of Tokyo" in 9 different languages. Please click on your language in the table below. As a comprehensive institution, SU has set the following goals, in line with its critical policies of developing human resources as the mainstay of civil society and generating knowledge and technology in response to the demands of the day to fulfill a universal role seat of knowledge. To strive to solve the challenges facing contemporary society. To contribute to the global community. As the only national university established in Saitama Prefecture, Saitama University's history began a century ago. Three renowned Japanese national education universities, Urawa Higher School(est.1921, Saitama Normal School (est.1873)and Saitama Youth Normal School(est. 1922)were integrated into Saitama University in 1949 to cultivate talented minds. The University was established based on the diverse characteristics and the know-how of each institute. These founding principles reflect the diversity, harmony, and progress seen on our campus today. Saitama University has long been established as a respected national university within Japan. As part of our global initiative, we convey outstanding results born from our various research projects to scholars worldwide. The University is not the stereotypical, conventional Japanese national University. We create originality from original mindsets. Our students communicate with faculty. Our faculty's fields of expertise enable Saitama's unique curriculum of combining onsite classes and research to academics.
