  1. Rossland Summit School welcomes students from Kindergarten to Grade 9. Our community-based school is located in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia in the Selkirk Mountains. We offer a safe and fun learning environment where students thrive. RSS offers a Late French Immersion program, sports, clubs, and student activities throughout the year. Our staff members are dedicated, well qualified, and enthusiastic about delivering a high education standard to all students. Staff, students, and parents work together to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for strong academic, social, and emotional growth. The Foundation Skills Assessments (FSA's) are an annual province-wide assessment of British Columbia students' academic skills and provides a snapshot of how well BC students are learning foundation skills in Reading Comprehension, Writing, and Numeracy. The assessment's primary purpose is to help the province, school districts, schools, and school planning councils evaluate how well students are achieving the necessary skills and make plans to improve student achievement. FSA is designed and developed by British Columbia educators. The skills assessed are linked to the provincial curriculum and provincial performance standards. The assessment is administered annually to Grade 4 and 7 students in public and provincially funded independent schools. An annual survey of students in grades 4, 7, 10, and 12, their parents and school staff administered since 2002 in British Columbia public schools. The Survey was developed with input from partner groups, experts in educational measurement and special education, and early-grade teachers. Each year feedback from participants is considered in order to improve the survey questions and features. Students choosing not to meet these expectations will be subject to interventions and actions within the School District Student Code of Conduct Regulations. The district and school's responsibility is to work with support staff, community agencies, and parents to support students in meeting these expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct. To facilitate the development of appropriate student social skills, the Board will provide preventative and motivational initiatives in schools, which might include, but are not limited to: Teaching appropriate behaviors Peer counseling Parental and community involvement Alternative out-of-school learning experiences Teaching conflict resolution and problem-solving skills Self-esteem building Professional counseling Restorative justice Referrals to other agencies Wireless access is available in our school. This network is open to all students and staff who wish to bring personal devices from home. While no technical support can be provided for personal devices, there are instructions to help you connect. In-School District #20, every student has the right to an appropriate educational program, be treated respectfully and judiciously, freedom of expression conducted respectfully and formal means for expressing concerns, an appeal process regarding decisions of Board employees which significantly affect the education, health, or safety of students, privacy and confidentiality relating to student records, be taught expected behavior and school/district codes of conduct, be assisted when exhibiting behavior which differs from age-appropriate expectations and which seriously interferes with their learning and the learning of others. All students should have equitable access to learning, opportunities for achievement, and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of their educational programs.
