We are an outstanding, one-form entry, maintained primary school located on the border of Putney and Wimbledon, in the heart of the William Willison Estate. I hope you find our website answers your questions about the school. Last year we moved into a brand new building that enshrines our school ethos to ‘Be the best you can be’. The new facilities include light and airy classrooms each with its small group room. Our Token Shop takes center stage on the first floor and there is a beautiful hall with enough space to host a multitude of sporting and community events. Our diverse school community, talented staff, and Governing Board have driven these incredible changes and continue to strive for the highest standards in all aspects of school life. We provide opportunities for every child to achieve the best outcomes, not just for reading, writing, and maths, but across the whole curriculum and beyond the school gates. We aim to provide our children with an exciting and creative curriculum, which encompasses the National Curriculum. Please click here to read more about them. These are our three core Curriculum subjects English (Literacy), Numeracy (Maths), Science. Other subjects are foundation subjects i.e History, Geography, Design Technology, Music, Art, P.E, ICT, and French. We also teach R.E. (Religious Education) and P.S.H.E. (Personal, social, health education). We have just been given ‘National Healthy School Status’ and also achieved the ‘Activemark’ for Sport and P.E. Of the 27.5 hours in the normal school week 23.5 hours are spent teaching the agreed curriculum. The remaining time is spent on assemblies, registration, and playtimes. At Ronald Ross Primary School, we teach children from the ages of 3 to 11. Our Early Years classes are the Nursery and Reception. Years 1 & 2 study in Key Stage 1, and Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 study in Key Stage 2. Children will be taught the core subjects all through the year. P.E., R.E., Music, Art, French & I.C.T. are also taught throughout the year. Design Technology, History & Geography are taught in blocks during the year. Information and Communication Technology (I.C.T.) is now an increasingly important part of our lives. Every classroom has a P.C. with access to the Internet, Smartboards and projectors are now installed in all the classrooms. We also have a separate computer suite where we teach whole class lessons. All subjects are taught in mixed ability classes, any grouping necessary is done within the class. We believe that the art of teaching is very important. All staff is trained in different teaching and learning styles so that they can be sure they use appropriate strategies for your child. As part of our curriculum provision, we aim to teach ‘themed’ weeks throughout the year based on specific curriculum areas. Recent themed weeks have included Science week, Book week, and Health & Fitness week. This gives us opportunities to have a special focus for the whole school, with different activities taking place.
