Ridgeway Primary School and Nursery is an inclusive school where we focus on the well-being and progress of every child and where all members of our community are of equal worth. We believe that the Equality Act provides a framework to support our commitment to valuing diversity, tackling discrimination, promoting equality, and fostering good relationships between people. It also ensures that we continue to tackle issues of disadvantage and underachievement of different groups. Ridgeway Primary School was formed in 1996 following the reorganization of the existing Infant and Junior Schools. Ridgeway Primary School and Nursery aim to be A thriving purposeful community of learners where adults and children work together in an environment planned for high-quality teaching and learning and where all those involved in the successful development of children work closely together for school improvement. We aim to ensure that during their time at Ridgeway, children develop responsible and disciplined attitudes to learning and the skills and competencies necessary to move on to secondary school with confidence. Ridgeway Primary School and Nursery have developed a unique and creative curriculum that is taught through Contexts for Learning. The contexts coherently use the National Curriculum enabling children to make links in their learning and generate opportunities for deeper learning. The child-centered curriculum offered through ‘Contexts for Learning’ provides an excellent opportunity to develop enthusiastic, self-motivated, and independent learners. We are trying to develop individuals who develop lifelong learning skills with a true love of learning. Through Contexts for Learning, teachers plan to learn which will continue to develop each child’s capacity to learn within many different situations and contexts. If we develop this love of learning and their repertoire of learning to learn in any situation, children will continue to build upon these throughout their life. Research shows that we need to equip our children with a highly developed capacity to learn for life in the 21st Century. Our aims for all children are that: They should be safe, secure, and happy in school. They have equal access to the curriculum, regardless of ability, gender, race, or religion. They acquire the necessary skills of literacy and numeracy to raise levels of achievement within and beyond the National Curriculum. They experience a broad and balanced curriculum where knowledge, skills, and understanding can develop at a pace matched to individual needs. They experience the security and satisfaction that comes from consistent good teaching, a stimulating learning environment, and ongoing active parental interest and support. They develop an appreciation of the importance of responsible behavior, courtesy, and consideration for others. And, last but not least, that their spiritual, moral, and cultural development is promoted, to prepare them to become valued members of an ever-changing, multi-cultural society. View full school
