  1. As a leading regional public college, Rhode Island College personalizes higher education of the finest quality for undergraduate and graduate students. We offer vibrant arts and sciences, business, and professional disciplines within a supportive, respectful, and diverse community. Dedicated faculty engage students in learning, research, and career attainment, and our innovative curricula and co-curricular foster intellectual curiosity and prepare an educated citizenry for responsible leadership. Rhode Island College will be recognized as an outstanding institution of higher education that is valued for high-impact programs and educational practices that prepare Rhode Island's diverse population for meaningful learning experiences that foster student retention and completion and support professional development, and for its partnerships that strengthen undergraduate, graduate and co-curricular programs. The college will be known for its faculty, students, and alumni's expertise and leadership for its adaptability to the changing social and economic environment and its collective impact on Rhode Island's economy and culture. Rhode Island College is built upon a legacy vital to the state of Rhode Island and the development of modern education in this country. RIC came from humble origins, as an untested idea championed by a few genuinely visionary leaders. But its founding also inaugurated an unmatched commitment to self-transformation to meet the changing needs of the people of Rhode Island – a commitment that continues to this day. Professional Studies and Continuing Education (PSCE) extends the educational offerings and resources of Rhode Island College (RIC) and provides administrative programming support and assistance to affiliated agencies and organizations on and off-campus. RIC's continuing education, workforce development, professional development, personal enrichment, and cultural/community programs serve adult students, immigrants and undocumented refugees, unemployed and underemployed members of the workforce, chief executives, nurses, PreK-12 teachers and administrators, social workers, childcare providers, English language learners and managers and supervisors in the public and private sectors. Cultural and community initiatives include conference and event programming on issues and topics related to STEAM initiatives, sustainability, Native American culture, financial literacy content for K-12 teachers and women in higher education programming for RI schoolchildren includes campus tours and presentations on sustainability that make use of RIC's Bee Education Center, campus garden and greenhouse. Summer and Early Spring sessions and faculty-led travel provide degree and nondegree undergraduate and graduate students with access to traditional, specialized, and intensive courses offered to accelerate and maximize college study.PSCE units and programs include Continuing Education, Summer Sessions, Early Spring Session, Faculty-Led Travel, Outreach Programs, Career Development Center, RI STEAM Center, ESL Intensive and ExCEL Programs, Economic and Leadership Development, Sustainability Programs, Langevin Center for Design, Innovation, and Advanced Manufacturing and various cultural and community programs. PSCE needs, values, and depends on our campus and community partners to support effective programs. All CE courses and programs are offered in cooperation with RIC schools and departments. For partnering agencies and organizations, PSCE helps establish courses and workshops and identify College resources that support continuing education activities. Rhode Island College has a long history of providing such assistance to business and industry and public and private schools and agencies. Rhode Island College students, no matter what their major, may study abroad with many programs, most of which are not run directly through the college. Students may study abroad for a semester, year, summer, or during the short January term. The choice of program and country depends upon the interests of the individual student. However, you may be interested in learning a foreign language while abroad, this is not essential. Many programs, even in non-English-speaking countries, offer courses in English. There are several factors to take into consideration when deciding on the right program for you. The purpose of the Study Abroad Office is to guide the study abroad process, help students with their applications, and facilitate the transfer of credits. Graduate study is offered through the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, the School of Management, the School of Nursing, and the School of Social Work. These graduate programs serve either as a professional terminal degree or as an intermediate degree to pursue further graduate study. The mission of the Office of Student Financial Aid is to assist students and their families in funding educational costs at Rhode Island College. Financial aid comes in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, and part-time employment. The Office of Residential Life and Housing at Rhode Island College is dedicated to providing an open and respectful environment that is caring, positive, and safe. Our staff strives to inspire personal growth and academic success through a student-centered approach to learning that values shared responsibility, empowerment, and leadership. Our office is represented by a diverse and educated professional staff committed to providing students with the highest quality and efficiency through continued professional development and a proactive approach to problem-solving. By building a supportive community that celebrates creativity and diversity, our goal is to provide lasting connections that instill a commitment to leadership and citizenry.RIC recognizes how essential diversity and inclusion are in an educational environment informed by cultural inquiry and designed to stimulate critical and creative thinking. The mission of the Rhode Island College division for Community Equity and Diversity is to ensure that diversity and inclusion are active and ongoing processes that promote social justice and equity college-wide. The division provides leadership to identify, assess, and eliminate institutional inequalities in areas related to race, ethnicity, gender expression or identity, religion, social class, language, disability, socioeconomic status, national origin, citizenship status, age, and veteran status. Our commitment is to promote a campus climate that is diverse, supportive, welcoming, and safe for all.
