      1. Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida. Ransom Everglades School produces graduates who "believe that they are in the world not so much for what they can get out of it as for what they can put into it." The mission of Ransom Everglades School is to provide an educational environment in which the pursuit of honor, academic excellence, and intellectual growth are complemented by concern for the physical, cultural, and character development of each student. The school provides rigorous college preparation that promotes the student's sense of identity, community, personal integrity, and values for a productive and satisfying life and prepares them to lead and contribute to society. A private institution with a public purpose, Ransom Everglades combines rigorous college preparation with a commitment to leaving the world better than we found it. From the days when the school split the year between the Adirondacks and Coconut Grove, Biscayne Bay has been the right-center of student life, setting everything from biology classes to sailing and kayaking. Stewardship of nature remains a core value. Every first-year student receives a compass and is taught how to use it during a five-day Outward Bound trip to the Everglades. Learning to navigate unfamiliar environments has always been a vital part of a Ransom Everglades education, whether the challenge is physical, academic, or ethical. Developing leadership capabilities is equally important, and, at RE, leadership is defined as creating opportunities for others. Almost all of our students participate in service programs — many of which are conceived, funded, staffed, and led by students. Ransom Everglades School admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression in administering its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs. Students have developed the experiences, skills, and knowledge throughout our history to guide them through meaningful lives in a changing world. Since the beginning, Ransom Everglades has sought to instill an appreciation for the environment, global perspectives, empathy, cultural competencies, and the ability to persevere. A curriculum that includes sailing on Biscayne Bay, a student body with students from around the Americas and world, and a well-traveled faculty have been hallmarked at Ransom Everglades. The rigor embedded in the curriculum not only results in high numbers of Advanced Placement Scholars and National Merit Finalists, but it also inspires students who build apps, creates business plans, design original lab experiments, and publish their research. A student population of diverse backgrounds the school's membership in the Global Online Academy educational travel opportunities to eight countries student-led organizations like the Diversity Council and Women Empowered and ongoing efforts to increase the diversity of perspectives represented in the study body and on the faculty continues to blend tradition and cutting-edge thinking at Ransom Everglades.
