Queensmead is an 11-18 co-educational academy that is forward-looking and dynamic. At Queensmead, we have a tradition of combining both high expectations for all our students and a curriculum that is appropriate to the needs of the 21st Century. Our dedicated staff, excellent facilities, and commitment to providing equal access to a wide range of educational and cultural experiences create an environment in which all students can discover and develop their full potential. Our students are here to learn, but education at Queensmead is not limited to the statutory delivery of the National Curriculum. It includes a wide range of extra-curricular activities which incorporate busy sports and a performing arts program. Fundamentally we are an ambitious school that is committed to seeking the best for all our students. There is a wealth of additional information about our school on this website. At Queensmead we regard the nature of the buildings in which our students are to be educated as being of the highest importance. We have worked particularly hard in recent years to improve and maintain the school buildings as well as their facilities and equipment. Facilities are excellent and are continuously modified and improved to respond to the demands of today’s education. The school is well looked after and is especially well equipped. We have approximately 800 computer workstations, 260 iPads, and 840 Chromebooks. All 78 classrooms are equipped with smart interactive whiteboards, digital projectors, and interactive teaching slates. Our investment in technology supports our use of Google Apps for Education in lessons to enhance the quality of learning and collaboration between students and staff. The all-weather floodlight sporting complex is particularly popular with students with eight 5-a side and three 7 a-side pitches. The PE department has expansive playing fields mean there are outstanding opportunities for all sports. There are Cricket nets, Cricket pitches, Football pitches, Rugby pitches, a Long Jump pit, and Athletics all at their disposal. The Queensmead Sports Centre contains a state-of-art Fitness Centre fitted with cardio-vascular machines as well as weight training facilities. At Queensmead School teachers will plan lessons that enable students to learn, based on data about those students. They will identify students’ abilities, their current progress, including strengths and weaknesses, and targets that have been set. Each term they complete an assessment of each student’s progress by the Assessment Policy. Teachers will facilitate learning by ensuring that new information is delivered through well-planned explaining and modeling, effectively using resources (particularly technology) to make this information easy to access. They will devise activities that enable students to learn, engaging them fully and developing a desire to learn further. These will be activities that require students to think about the new information they have received, including (amongst others) group work, carefully planned questioning, discussion, role-play, practical work, and problem-solving.
