- We are building a family at Prendergast Vale with academic excellence at the heart of everything we do. We are Prendergast Vale School, catering for both boys and girls of all ages from 3 to 16. Our aim is for every student who leaves this school at age 16 to be on the path to university leading to successful careers with good prospects. To make this happen, we ensure that the academic and social development of every student is at the heart of what we do. Not only should students have well-regarded qualifications when they leave school but they will also acquire character traits that will enable them to be successful in life. Traits such as optimism, resilience, and confidence are developed throughout all subjects and through extra-curricular activities. We are a very special community as our school motto says ‘in Perpetuum discuss - we are forever learning, and we hope that you will consider the possibility of your child continuing their learning in our family. As a member of the Leatherseller's Federation of schools, we share a common set of goals and values. We are committed to providing excellent academic education and personal support to all our students. This year, our student body has successfully captured our values in the following statement. We Value learning We strive to achieve our full potential We Lead by example and Excel in all lessons. The Friends of Prendergast Vale (or FoPV for short) is the School's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) which allows parents and carers to meet with senior school staff to ask questions and give feedback and raise money to enhance student life. As a parent or carer with a child at Prendergast Vale, you are automatically a member. Being a member of the Friends group is a great way of taking part in school life and meeting other parents. We run stalls at school events, including the Christmas Fair and the Summer Festival of Creativity, and we always need volunteers. So far, we have raised funds to donate leaving presents to all Year 6 children, help the Year 11s celebrate the end of their time at Vale, donate books to the school Library and paint the wall at the school's exit. - A great deal has happened to transform this community school in the heart of Lewisham. The commitment and talents of its staff have been fully focussed on ensuring students reach their full potential. A relentless focus on improving the standard of Teaching and Learning is at the heart of school improvement. With this in mind, the leadership team in the school has developed whole-school systems for monitoring and evaluating the performance of staff and the effectiveness of their teaching. We have revised the assessment and reporting structure in the school. There are now 4 modules over the school year, each of which ends with a revision week and then formal assessment in all subjects. We collect this tracking information and a summary of students’ achievements are reported to parents and carers in October, December, March, and July. This provides information about the progress their child is making toward their aspirational target grade in every subject and an indication of their engagement in learning. This report is used to stretch our most able students, and support and challenge those who are not making good progress. We revised the curriculum offer in Year 10 and 11. Our pathway curriculum demands that our most able students take the most challenging EBacc GCSEs, ensuring they are well prepared for A-Level qualifications and application to Russell Group Universities. The appointment of a Most Able co-ordinator in the school ensures that students predicted A and A* grades at GCSE are given the challenge and support they need to succeed. High expectations for all academically are mirrored in the work we are doing to ensure a firm but fair approach to standards and discipline, with a clear emphasis that children feel safe to learn. A strong stance is taken with students who disrupt the learning of others. High standards of courtesy and politeness are expected of students at all times, students are expected to wear the school uniform with pride and work hard at school and home. Parents are very positive about the school. We are proud of our community of parents, students, staff, and Governors, who make our school a great place to learn, work and share with our neighbors and community. View full school
