University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB) is the most important technical university in Romania. Its traditions are connected to the founding of the first higher technical school in 1818 by Gheorghe Lazar. Born in Avrig, Gheorghe Lazar studied in Sibiu, Cluj, and Vienna. In 1817-1818 he endeavored to convince the local noblemen of supporting a modern national school in the Romanian language. University Politehnica of Bucharest is the largest and the oldest technical university in the country and among the most prestigious universities in Romania. The tradition of our institution, developed in over 190 years through the effort of the most important nation's schoolmasters and students' generations, is not the only convincing reason. Today, the Politehnica University of Bucharest is undergoing a continuous modernization process, being involved in a permanent dialogue with great universities in Europe and worldwide. The mission of the University Politehnica of Bucharest has been thought over as a blend of education, research, and innovation, which represents a key towards a knowledge-based society and economy. Creating knowledge mainly by scientific research, giving it out by education and professional training, disseminating it by information technologies, and technological innovation are elements that define the university's distinctive profile. Consistent to the fundamental role played by universities and student organizations in the Higher Education European Scene development, the Politehnica University of Bucharest commits itself to priorities such as the development of the higher education quality at the European level, studies reorganization by adopting a system based on cycles whose implementation started in 2005, support of students and teaching staff mobility abroad, the achievement of the partnership with students given decision making, and turning the continuous education into a reality. To face these complex challenges, the Politehnica University of Bucharest is planning a sound educational and research-development policy with the participation of the entire community. Our university is a full member of several academic organizations, the main ones being the Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research (CESAER), International Association of Universities (IAU), European University Association (EUA), Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), etc. However, UPB paid particular attention to bilateral cooperation agreements (around 200 accords in 2010) with similar universities, mainly from Europe, Japan, or the United States of America. Also, University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest is an active participant in projects such as COPERNICUS, PECO, 7th FRAME. The World Bank has funded many research projects and development plans for new facilities in the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest. University Politehnica of Bucharest makes public offering education through the university site, periodical publications, presentation of the university in high school, and educational fairs and exhibitions. The admission criteria are based solely on scholar excellence and the equality of chances principle. Admission to a Bachelor of Science study program is open to high school graduates having a baccalaureate diploma. It follows a selection procedure decided by the Senate of the university. Admission requirements for a Master of Science study programs are a bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution, a competitive examination, and the undergraduate training enabling the applicants to do graduate work in the chosen field. Candidates may apply on-line for admission to B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs, certificates being subsequently validated by presenting the due documents. Admission to a Ph.D. program is open to doctoral applicants who can show a significant potential for graduate studies and a strong commitment to research in their academic field. University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest welcomes foreign applicants, offering several 20 B.Sc. and 25 M.Sc. programs taught in English, French, or German. Established in 1920, shortly after the union of Romanian territories, in a European context marked by the redefinition of states and by the aftermath of World War I, the Polytechnic School in Timisoara - as was initially called - was the answer to one of the requirements of the Romanian society of the time, namely the formation of engineers. Politehnica University Timisoara, a university of advanced research and education, is today one of the traditional Romanian schools and is recognized nationally and internationally through generations of teachers and the outstanding work of prestigious academics. According to tradition, the Politehnica University of Timisoara's mission resides in meeting the competence requirements of the societal environment by providing superior training at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. Bearing fundamental values, the university mission reflects at the same time concern for the future of society by tracing its development at local, regional, national, and international levels. The structure of the Politehnica University of Timisoara includes faculties, departments, chairs, institutes and research centers, laboratories, libraries, hostels, canteens, sports facilities, technical and administrative services, a publishing house and a printing center, and a student medical center. The ten faculties of the university provide education programs to approximately 13,500 students. Within the 25 departments of the university work, nearly 700 teachers and the auxiliary and administrative personnel amount to 500 staff. Interested in responding to the labor market demands and the need for long-life training and development required by the complex challenges of the modern society, Politehnica University of Timisoara organizes POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS, whose main objective is to update/develop/improve numerous academic qualifications. The portfolio of specializations offered by the Politehnica University Timisoara meets contemporary society's needs, reflecting the close relationship the university holds with the socio-economic environment.
